Alan Grayson, the highest profile Florida Democrat in Congress to lose Tuesday, blamed his loss on poor Democratic turnout and implied he'd likely seek a return to public office.
"Anything is possible," he told the Buzz. "I'm the only Democrat who's been able to win this seat in 36 years. One would imagine that at least the party would like me to take a shot at it again."
"I'm not upset. I'm proud," he said of his loss to Republican Dan Webster. "I'm happy about the way that we did the job. We saw a lot of congressmen who kissed up to lobbyists who went down in stinging defeats yesterday. A lot of congressmen who tried to spin, and cut concerns and duck questions and never take a stand. (Republicans) had to spend more than $2 million in special interest money to take me out."
Grayson said he had no regrets about his vote for President Obama's agenda, including health care and said he had brought more grant money to his district, got funding for the VA hospital in Orlando and started a foreclosure mediation program.
Likewise, he said he did not regret his provocative ways in Washington and on cable TV -- actions that made him a national target.
"In context, I think they were all truthful statements. Knuckle-dragging Neanderthals is a very good description of the way that Republicans have in fact blocked the president's agenda the past two years to the enormous detriment of the country. They simply have been obstructionists. I happened to put it into colorful terms."
He also disagreed his controversial Taliban Dan ad was a costly mistake, giving momentum to Webster's then sleepy campaign. "What happened, simply, is we couldn't get our vote out."
Cool. Maybe he could become a Democrat Harold Stassen.

Living in Minnesota, I got to met Harold Stassen a few times before he died. He was a class act and a true gentleman.
Grayson could never ever come close to emulating Harold Stassen.

For those that do not know: Grayson ran a political ad that took Webster's words and turned it into completely opposite of what Webster said. It was an utterly calculated lie. He was caught red-handed and blasted on talk radio. He did not bother apologizing. Grayson is dispicable.

Now that's an idea! Let's start a "draft Grayson for the 2012 Democrat nomination for President" movement. Maybe he'll appeal more to the left-wing base than Obama.
