Tim Walberg defeats U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer for two-year term in Congress
Jackson Cit-Pat ^ | 11-3-2010 | Chris Gautz

Tim Walberg was sent home from Congress two years ago when Mark Schauer was swept into office with the help of a strong Democratic wave.

But the tide turned against the Democrats nationally Tuesday, and voters sent Walberg — along with a majority of House Republicans — back to Washington.

Several hundred enthusiastic Walberg supporters burst into thunderous applause when the Tipton Republican addressed them late Tuesday night.

“It has been a tough-fought battle as you might have noticed. It’s been well watched, it’s been well-spent and financed,” Walberg said. “But we won.”

The 7th Congressional District was one of the most expensive races in the country. In the end, likely more than $10 million will have been spent, including more than $1 million from the National Republican Congressional Committee, which committed more money to this race than any other district in the country.

It's nice to actually have representation again. Marky Mark got the firing he deserves, and Tim Walberg is a true conservative who deserved our support.

What a thrill. Not looking good though for MI-09, pity it would have been almost a sweep here.

Dingell is toast via redistricting.

It hasn’t hit the rest of America but there was a massive earthquake in Michigan last night.

Sigh. In most of Michigan.

I deserve better...

Rocky would have been great.

We can thank Pontiac, West Bloomfield, and Royal Oak. Hopefully Peters will be redistricted out of a job.

I'm hoping it's Levin.

Actually, I saw a lot of Rocky signs in West Bloomfield. I think Pontiac was more the culprit. And all the 20 something skulls full of mush in RO.

Knew I liked Walberg as soon as I saw the Democrats first negative ad complaining about all the programs Walberg wanted to cut. For me, it was like an enormous positive campaign ad paid for by the opposition. The Democrats really don’t get it. We WANT government to shrink. Your little scare tactics don’t work anymore.

He’s a good man. Not a fire in the belly speechmaker but he does what’s right consistently.

The Jackson Cit pat says this was the most expensive house race ever in michigan. They claim $10 million was spent then immediately insinuated that it was GOP / corporate money but they only accounted for 1 million. I did some digging and found that Walberg himself collected another million. That leaves some 8 million dollars that the democrats and unions spent to keep Walberg from retaking the seat.

I love it that Walberg was way outspent by the Dems and still won. That should be obvious to anyone watching local TV. The Dems bought tons of anti-Walberg time, and it it didn’t work!!!!! Yay!

It may have worked. That old lady whining about needing "her" Medicare may have grated on other people who pay for it as it did me.

If you heard someone screaming "It's not YOUR Medicare"! that may have been me. Sorry.

What she doesn't but many people are coming to understand is that Medicaid and Social Security are charity at the point of a bayonet. A good deal if you are a recipient, not so much fun if you are getting the point.

I think you missed my point. I meant they worked in our favor. I should have said so in so many words.

We’re good, I wasn’t singling you out. I just posted to the last post on the thread.

I agree that the constant attacks on Walberg hurt Schauer.
