The Morning Briefing: The Tsunami
Red State ^ | November 3, 2010 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 11/03/2010 5:31:18 AM PDT by conservativegramma

This is an unusual Morning Briefing because you need to understand what happened while you’ve been sleeping.

Republican gains are massive. And when I say Republican gains are massive, I mean tsunami.

No, the GOP did not take the Senate and some races are still outstanding, but the Senate GOP has moved to the right. More so, the Republicans picking up, in the worst case, seven seats is historically strong.

But consider that as you wake up this morning the Republican Party has picked up more seats in the House of Representatives than at any time since 1948 — that is more than sixty seats. Ike Skelton, Class of 1976, is gone. Many, many other Democrats are gone.

That, in and of itself, is significant. But that’s not the half of it. The real story is the underreported story of the night - the Republican pick ups at the state level.

I agree, the sheer numbers of state legislatures that flipped GOP last night has gone un or under-reported. In a few states like Alabama haven't been under GOP control for over a hundred years! That's a tsunami folks no matter what talking heads are saying.

“WE WON”

Boehner probably won’t man up and say it. But we did.

And those state legislatures will be drawing the congressional districts that will determine DC power for the next decade.

Yep! And not only that those legislatures will be tackling immigration law similar to AZ’s; and limiting Obamacare’s control over their respective states.

Indiana flipped to GOP last night, and that is one state (since I live there) that I KNOW will be tackling those 2 issues.

U.S. Senate or not - last night was a massive win! Hoorah!

And they will be deciding on voter ID requirements. The tea party folks are not likely to role over on that one either.

GOP had +62 in 1920. We could narrowly top that, a major accomplishment. +60 net so far.

Rats +92 in 1932 is the 20th Century record.

GOP was plus +130 in 1894. And that was out of 357 total seats.

House Map - Election Results

Pay special attention to the areas with red lines, which represent Dem areas that are now in Repub hands. Nice, huh??!! Now, notice the areas with blue lines, which represent Repub areas that are now in Dem hands.

Hmmm.... where are they?!?!?! There are NONE!

I just don't understand the posts this morning by FReepers moaning about how "we hardly won anything". WTH???

Don’t be disappointed by the Senate. It was a huge stretch, but in the echo chamber of FR, got blown out of proportion.

2012 could be HUGE. Not only the presidential election, but 21 of the 33 Senate seat that are up for re-election are Democrat seats. Plus the 2 independents. Two years ago, no one thought that either house would be in play. We need to push forward for 2012 and not lose momentum.

Many state legislatures turned RED yesterday. This has huge implications for redistricting and the 2012 elections. Stop focusing on the “pie in the sky” like Reid and look at the overall picture.

Sorry that looks like +57 net.

I got that from Fox (TV) and CNN (web).

They have rats taking 3 of ours and us taking 60 of theirs.

239-183, that leaves 13 races not yet called.

the Demagogues represent coastal and urban enclaves of mindless liberalism

the vast majority of the USA is a center-right country, not an Obama socialist country

if we can keep things on a sensible course toward 2012 and beyond there is no way that Democrats should dominate in national and statewide elections outside of their little fiefdoms

I'm disappointed too. I especially don't understand Nevada.

However, we have to look on the bright side. And the message in this article is correct. On balance, it was a very good night.

******************

They are rightly, but excessively disappointed at the GOP/Dem sniper fire at several select candidates, such as O’Donnell and possibly Miller, and failing to pick off that the most vile and poisonous toad in Congress, Harry Reed.

Yesterday was not perfect, but it was good. This is going to be a long, frustrating struggle to restore American freedom from federal oppression.

Trench warfare is slow and grinding. Gaining some ground, and winning the attrition battle over and over is how it is won. Good guys miraculously blowing up the Deathstar is from a movie.

go to the NY Times website www.nytimes.com

They have a very good map and, it seems to me after checking NJ, pretty fair little write ups on each state.

I have to say the Times as always been good for comprehensive election results.

Let’s hope they got Marco Rubio’s name right!
