Houston news (Perry's book aims at liberals — hits Bush, too)
AUSTIN BUREAU / Houston Chronicle ^ | Nov. 2, 2010 | R.G. RATCLIFFE

AUSTIN — Gov. Rick Perry's new book, Fed Up!, is repeatedly critical of former President George W. Bush and defends the rights of Arizona to pass anti-immigration legislation, as well as for California to legalize marijuana.

The anti-federal government book defends states' rights to regulate guns, abortion, gay marriage and calls for the overturning of the new federal health care law.

One portion of the book blames Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court for the Civil War, claiming they hampered the ability of Northern states to help set the slaves free. Perry specifically cited the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 and the Dred Scott v. Sanford decision as federal intrusions into the states' rights of the North.

"While the southern states seceded in the name of 'states' rights,' in many ways it was the northern states whose sovereignty was violated in the run-up to the Civil War," Perry writes.

Much of the book is dedicated to expansion of federal spending and federal programs that Perry says are bankrupting the United States. His solutions include repealing national health care, adopting a Constitutional amendment restricting federal spending and creating a sustained "national dialogue" on limited government.

Sorry for the lame title. That's what the author called it.. "Houston news".

Perry will be handily re-elected tonight, by the way. Far and away the best choice we were offered too. So there.

He should have the illegal alien vote pretty well sown up.

And surely you can present evidence that any number of illegals are allowed to vote in Texas.

From 'way the hell up there in the great white north, you just know ALL about it, huh?

Are you familiar with this "R.G. RATCLIFFE"?

I've seen the name a few times.

“defends the rights of Arizona to pass anti-immigration legislation,”

we need to force these folks to us “pro-citizen” legislation.

Perry is a tool. We have to find a replacement for him, Cornyn and Hutchison.

Apparently he thinks states are supreme masters of all. ugh

Perry criticized Bush's Compassionate Conservatism as a "wrong signal." He took particular aim at Bush's No Child Left Behind education program and the expansion of the Medicare drug program and the federal banking bailouts at the start of the country's economic crisis.

I'm of the school that we shouldn't eat our own but he's right.

It is possible to be a federalist and a statist but that isn’t conservative.

Perry is John McCain with good hair. Hell, even McCain came around to supporting the border fence.

And Perry is also the best option we were offered.

Medina? A smacktard truther nutcase? No thanks.
Bill White? A disaster profiteer sanctuary city illegal lover? No thanks.
Kathie Glass? A noobie from last week who talks big but hasn’t a clue? No gracias again.

Who would you suggest, forensically, we should have elected?

Because it’s a done deal. Done and done and no more fun.

One of my best buds is an oilman down there. Talked to him earlier today. He plugged his nose and voted for Perry, despite hating him with a passion. If I were in Texas, I’d write in someone. I don’t vote for anyone who coddles illegals. Just keep you illegals down there, and Perry too.

I’d write in someone.

Which, obviously, equates to a vote for White.

Glad you ain't around, pard. We don't need any more of that mess.

Don’t agree with Perry on everything, but he’s a lot better than many states have as governor.
