Romney: ‘To Get Health Care to Work Like a Market’

November 1, 2010 10:23 P.M. By Robert Costa The former governor defends the Bay State’s health-care program on Hannity (rush transcript):

Hannity: Obviously, the country has rejected Obamacare, nationalized health care, socialized medicine. And you’ve made a very strong defense that there was no similarity, in your mind, and that there were grave differences, and I wanted to give you an opportunity to explain to some people who have been critical of you, what are those differences in the health care?

Romney: Well, obviously there are some similarities and there are some important differences as well. Maybe I’ll start with the intent: the intent of our legislation was to get health care to work like a market and the intent of the Obama bill, the Obamacare program, is to have government take over health care. Our bill was a state solution to a state problem within the rights of the Constitution. Obamacare is a federal intrusion of power, taking over the rights of states and the rights of families and the rights of doctors. It is a massive abuse of constitutional power and for that reason I think it needs to be repealed and we need to do a better job to get health care reformed in a way that makes it look more like a market. There are some other differences of course – Obamacare raises taxes by half a trillion dollars, it cuts benefits to seniors on the private side of medicare by a half a trillion dollars. Of course we didn’t do anything like that. And ours was an experiment, there were some mistakes in it, there are things I’d do differently the second time around. But that last thing I’d ever do would be to take what we had done for one state and impose it on the entire nation. It is simply be unconstitutional, it’s bad policy, and it’s wrong.

He should know that the average conservative voter is smarter than he gives credit for. Who does he think will buy this BS? Just say "SORRY, I was wrong", Mitt!

I saw Romney on Hannity. Romney was talking like a conservative because there’s a big conservative surge at this moment. If there was a big liberal surge, he’d be talking like a liberal. He’s full of it.

That’s right, to get health care to work like a market, take the market out of health care. LMAO.

I am surprised he changed his spin. He used to just fall back to defending Romneycare out of the box.

If anyone had any question to this guys electability, here it is. He’s a failure.

If the republican elite don’t silence this man, “We, the people” should give their party the duplicitous, hypocrites of the year award. Yes, I did say their party because when I hear bs like this from Romney, I’d like to forget I ever registered republican.

Does he really think we are that stupid? He must think we are like the gullible democrats who will vote for anything with the party label whenever they are told to do so.

Republican party please listen. Romney = No. Romney = Obama will win in 2012. Romney if elected would give us Socialism in 8 years instead of 4 and true conservatives know it and will not vote for him period!

Knock it off.

Romney called me tonight.

Actually, he robocalled me. Wanted me to vote for Philpot.

I hung up on Romney about eight words into his spiel.

I voted for Philpot last week, and I don’t care much what Romney says about anything.

Why is anyone even giving this guy the time of day? We must soundly defeat these types of republicans and make sure they don’t return to the Party. People like Romney are/have been leading the GOP off the edge of a cliff. If I want to here some liberal puke talking I will go to a democrat rally.

I’m open to hearing anything on medical care, but not from Romney. He can call Sarah and let her tell me about it.
He definitly needs a credible filter, because he’s not it.

I’ve had 5 or 6 robo calls from this nutcase this week.

If he get the nomination I will sit out the next election, as I almost did when LameCain got the nod.

Problem is as long as medicine is considered a business or a political tool medicine will never be low cost. What is being a doctor, knowledge, skill and time practicing under a mentor before one can set up his own shop. Ministers go thru the same process except doctors want to be in a business (big house, nice car, golf course) while a minister will settle for a modest house, used car and forget about the golf course. Ministers see their vocation as a service. Same with soldiers. Yes they are well paid versus conscript but no wheres close to what doctors make. They go thru years of experience, on the job training and mentorship before they assume first level of command and onward. Like the minister they settle for modest quarters, new car and golf course when they retire. Placing medicine under the constraints of a government organization is not the answer because when you hire a person for government career with a downsized salary when that individual feels his profession should be paid like an executive for his skill and academic sacrifice you will end up with a very unhappy government doctor. Worst the politicians will play with the system and bankrupt it.
If society wants low cost medicine, have ministers and priests have the option of being trained as doctors/nurses and minister medicine based on service and compassion versus profit, power and prestige. It would be interesting if a major religious order tap into their recruits of ministers ad priests to take on such services and see the result of such new paradigm versus current government vs prestiges small business motivation for medical career. If concept is successful maybe it can be applied to pharmaceutics.

Seems now he wants to have his voice heard. Haven’t heard a thing from him in two years condemning barry and there was enough to condemn about.

Now he’s ready to run, so get my voice out there.

FU Mitt!

He can never admit that his demon compromise with the left to socialize medicine - part way - was a failure. We can not let this man in power. He is truly a danger to the US like Obama only worse because he talks in fuzzy terms about free markets while underming the reality of free markets. He is a fascist and we have had enough of the corporate and government “partnership” crap now. We need to separate the two with a “Wall” of freedom.
