David Harmer vs. Jerry McNerney: Who’s on your side?

To undecided voters deciding whether to re-elect Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, I have one question: What do you know about Republican candidate David Harmer?

Are you aware that he favors privatizing Social Security, even after the Wall Street meltdown (no surprise, given his discredited deregulate-everything philosophy)? Or that he has spoken at a local Tea Party event? Or that he wrote in favor of abolishing public schools and returning education to “the way things worked through the first century of American nationhood” in an op-ed piece in the San Francisco Chronicle in 2000, a position he has not backed away from? Pleasanton has some of the best public schools in the state, and his rants against “socialism in education” have no place here.

My family members are canvassing our Pleasanton neighborhood so that Rep. McNerney, one of the most capable centrist members of Congress, isn’t turned out in an unfocused anger at everything about Washington. Electing Mr. Harmer and a return to Wall Street rule is not where we want to take this country in the next two years. Mr. Harmer is far out of step with the voters in this centrist district.

This guy JD Lasica wrote this blog on David Harmer which is totally inaccurate and wrong. While I respect JD Lasica's right to his opinion - I also believe that when he solicites comments on his blogs that he should let the comments speak for themselves, especially when there are no vulgarities involved. Well the truth of the matter is that JD doesn't believe in his "readers" right to an opinion, nor does he believe in having his inaccuracies corrected. As you can see, JD is very liberal and supports the Obama/Reid/Pelosi agenda - what bothers me is in his blog he asks the ? - I have one question: What do you know about Republican candidate David Harmer?

I tried to respond, but he deleted my comments - maybe he won't delete yours.

As you can see from the partial e-mail from moveon.org shown below, moveon is targeting David Harmer. Don't worry about this guy's blog. We need volunteers this weekend helping out. Here is where you can help. (See moveon.org e-mail below.)

Partial E-Mail from Moveon.org

“We've decided to target 59 key races, including Jerry McNerney’s, where we have reason to believe a flood of grassroots volunteers in the final push could make a real difference. And in those places, our volunteer numbers have been steadily climbing—we turned out about 20% more people last week than the week before, and we're getting amazing feedback from targeted campaigns about how MoveOn volunteers are making a big impact in reaching out to voters.

Nevertheless, we're still far short of our overall goals. In Dublin alone, we're counting on 353 volunteers, and so far we've only signed up 188. So our numbers need to improve dramatically over the next couple of days, in order for candidates like Jerry McNerney to run an effective voter turnout operation that can overcome the national trend.

So consider this a personal request: Will you sign up to volunteer for Jerry McNerney in Dublin?”

Isn’t this Ellen Tauscher’s old district?

No, David Harmer is running in CD 11 this time against Jerry McNerney.

Johan Garamendi (Dem) is now in Ellen Tauscher’s district. The two districts are adjacent. (Sort of, from a gerrymandering point of view.)
