"I hoped he would call so I could set him up with the police," the 5-foot-2-inch, 115-pound woman told a stunned courtroom yesterday before jurors listened in silence to the several-minute-long taped conversation with her alleged knifepoint attacker, Timothy West.

How dumb can a guy be? You rape someone at knife point and then think that they’re into you and want to hook up for more? Hopefully that was not based on previous experience but in any case this guy is toast. Lesson for everyone else, get a gun and learn how to use it or you may be next.
Tape is so old fashioned. I’d have made a digital recording.

Also, I was kinda funnin’ ya. I just sold the last of my open reel equipment because I got tired of NOS tape shredding all over the place. I do still have my cassette decks, A Nak and a Pioneer Ctf-1250.
The only reason I brought it up is that I suspect the recording is not on tape, but digital, regardless of what the article says.

It’s not really dumb - it’s more on the order of ‘sick’ or sociopathic. As a sociopath, he really can’t empathize with human emotion and he has no concept of what those he torments suffer. He would not want to either since it would interfere with thinking about himself. He knows right from wrong but he just ‘decides’ that she liked him if that’s what he wants to believe.
One serial rapist/sociopath said, while in jail, ‘I don’t get it, I didn’t hurt them that much and besides, that was at least a year ago.’ If he can forget about it, he figure they can.
Others have been known to act like it’s a date - one rapist asked, before leaving the apartment of a woman he had just raped at knifepoint, ‘So, you doing anything on Friday?’
Open reel! Those were the days. I had to do it on the cheap. Dad’s Lafayette deck, stereo playback, monoaural (though 4 channel) record. 3600’ reels of tape from Lafayette or Radio Shack. I even chose the open reel option from the Columbia Record Club. When I got my box of tapes, only “Not Fragile” by Bachman-Turner-Overdrive was 7 1/2 ips, the rest was 3 3/4ips. Bummed out.
Recent story from OK has a women held at knife point by two thugs.
Thug “A” can’t find money in her purse, so he gives it to her to give him the money she says is in there.
Long story/short, purse has CCW compartment in bottom, she shoots him twice in the chest, the one with the knife she shot him 4 times in the chest, one DOA one critical.
I love a happy ending.
Me too, I getted chills every time I share that story. OBTW - the man who survived was charged with murder because his buddy died from his wounds.

Society generally manages to deal effectively with sociopaths, when they commit rapes or murders. Of course, they have to be caught first.
Unfortunately, many sociopaths go into politics, and harm millions over a span of decades.
Very true. There are more sociopaths who go into either politics or law than would be accounted for by statistical averages. I once read that sociopaths are also overrepresented among surgeons. In a weird, Dexter-like way, that almost makes sense too.
