He is an infiltrator. He will try to water things down while proclaiming that he is on the same side.

The best description that I’ve heard of him is that he is one of those people who sees a parade and then hops out in front of it trying to pose as the leader.

Will Newt’s famous couch be on display?

Will the couch be in the tour bus or will it be hauled in it’s own special trailer?

Is it true that Newt has his very own inflatable Pelosi?

“They’re gonna try to take over!”

You knew it was coming. They did it Reagan too, and it worked for twenty years after he left office.

-"The best description that I’ve heard of him is that he is one of those people who sees a parade and then hops out in front of it trying to pose as the leader."

Newt capitalized on the 'anti-Incumbent' anger, and the RAT's/Clinton's hard-left turn in '93-'94 after capturing the Congress and Presidency in '92. Newt released the 'Contract with America' just a short 6 weeks before the election. Helping to galvanized the mood of the electorate and the Republican congressional candidates.

But, remember this was the era of Ross Perot and his solo "Reform Party" (19% of the Presidential vote in '92 and 8% in '96), where it was just primarily 'angry anti-incumbent' force, not the primarily 'patriotic/capitalist' and more broader cross-section of people that the current 'Tea Party' forces represent.

So, Newt essentially came in at the end and capitalized on this. He did not start it, he did not lead it, but he got a Speakership out of it. Once his profile was elevated to the national level from the '94 election victory, the RATs trained their guns like a laser on him. Personally, and politically. This, combined with his huge ego (he attempted to 'negotiate' directly with Clinton, instead of trying to secure Congressional consensus to contrast Clinton, resulted in Newt fizzling out in less than 12 months when Clinton tricked him into the 1995 Budget Shutdown.

Newt was all about Newt, and will always be about Newt. He is a 'political animal' more than a conservative, proven by his knee-jerk 'SCUZZAFAVA' endorsement.
