Fresh Senate Polls in W.V., Nev., Wisc., Wash., Conn., Del. (O'Donnell crushed)
Weekly Standard ^ | Oct 12, 2010 | JOHN MCCORMACK

Posted on 10/12/2010 10:48:00 PM PDT by tlb

Public Policy Polling, a Democratic firm, shows West Virginia governor and Democratic Senate candidate Joe Manchin leading Republican John Raese by 3 points (48% to 45%), just a couple weeks after trailing Raese by a few points. It will be interesting to see if other pollsters pick up the same movement. Last week, Rasmussen showed Raese leading Manchin 50% to 44%.

Nevada race remains tight. PPP shows Harry Reid leading Sharron Angle by 2 points in Nevada (47% to 45%). But Fox News finds Angle with 2 point lead (49% to 47%).

From Fox's other polls out today (GOP candidates listed first):

Linda McMahon is trailing Dick Blumenthal by just 6 points in Connecticut (43% to 49%)--a slight improvement from the last Fox poll showing her down 10.

Washington.. Dino Rossi over Sen. Patty Murray (47% to 46%).

Delaware ...Christine O'Donnell trailing Chris Coons by 16 points (38% to 54%).

Finally, Rasmussen shows Republican Ron Johnson leading Democratic senator Russ Feingold 52% to 45% in the the Wisconsin Senate race--a little closer than it was two weeks ago (54% to 42%). But the poll is still bad news for Feingold.

Watching WV I don't believe Raese is losing ground to Manchin, but O'Donnell is totally stalled. The new Fox poll (down 16) is consistent with last week's Fairleigh-Dickinson University poll (down 19) and this other poll today:

Coons holds 19 point lead over O’Donnell

Monmouth University in New Jersey released results today for the U.S. Senate race. The telephone poll of 790 likely voters, found 57 percent support Democrat Chris Coons compared to 38 percent backing Republican Christine O’Donnell.

Rove helped to hurt O’Donnell. Why in the world did he bad mouth her particularly AFTER she won the primaries.

But it’s not too late. A lot can happen in three weeks.

As I commented on another thread, O'Donnell has NOT run a good campaign against Coons. It hasn't helped that she has been piled on from the left AND "right". And now Obama is parachuting into Delaware? With Coons enjoying a comfy lead 3 weeks prior to the election? Why?

Psssst! Obama's going to Delaware to help *someone* but it aint Coons! ;-)

I got a call from O’Donnell’s campaign tonight asking for a second donation. I gave it, but it looks like she’s not going to catch up. Pisses me off. I think she’s a nice gal with good intentions.

Rush spoke about this today and I tend to agree with him. He believes in this case that the polls are skewed and that the numbers are actually alot closer. Rush’s reasoning was, why would Obama be going to DE to campaign for Coons if the numbers are correct when there are other races much tighter. etc.

I hope he’s right. ODonnell needs to increase the pressure in the ads and increase the frequency of them on this home stretch. (imo)

A lot can happen in three weeks.

If Coons was photographed in bed with a dead girl or a live boy...it would be close.

That's about it.

Thanks for nothing, Delaware voters. If you give us that corn-t*rd Coons, you’re no better than Illinois who gave us The First Bastard.

Most of the polls compared (PPP vs. others) are within the respective margins of error. So in most of these situations *both* polls could be “right.”

O’Donnell needs to stop talking about herself and starting nailing Coons to Obama, the health care bill and the stimulus. This election is not about our guys. It’s about their guys and what they are doing to the country. She can still win and Obama going to DE is going to be a great opportunity to tie Coons to the Obama/Pelosi/Reid agenda.

Just checked it out a few minutes ago and if Facebook is any indication.......... Christine O’Donnell has 3 times the FB Fans Chris Coons has: 24,000 - 8,000.

I’m praying for an early blizzard to hit DE on November 2nd to keep the Liberals, panty-waist, sissy Democrats, the Crack house occupants and all the Crack HOs home on Election Day.

The fact that Reid has any kind of chance is astounding to know how awful the people in Nevada really must be...well...at least half of them.

>>> Rove helped to hurt O’Donnell

O’Donnell is a known quantity in Delaware. She just a couple years ago ran a statewide campaign for the same office. And was crushed then too. You really think the 2/3 of the state electorate who are democrats wait for Rove before they take a side?

She was and is an extraordinarily weak candidate. She’s had years to persuade them otherwise, and didn’t. Scapegoating Rove for speaking the truth isn’t the answer.

I'll never trust Rove again. He should have just kept his mouth shut!

Maybe Obama going to Delaware will help Christine. Maybe he will go to Biden's Lowe's....or to Joe's restaurant that had been closed for years!

Rush’s reasoning was, why would Obama be going to DE to campaign for Coons if the numbers are correct when there are other races much tighter. etc.

Actually I'd expect Rush to be a bit more politcally sophisticated, surprising he missed this.

But the real reason is pretty obvious, and was pointed out by numerous people on other threads.

The reason Obama is going to Delaware is because his handlers are so SURE Coons will WIN, but its still a high-profile race because of the publicity surrounding O'Donnell. It's the only place where they can associate Obama with success, not failure.

They're aware that the election will pretty much be a disaster, that they will lose the House, but probably hang on to the Senate by a seat or two.

So, here's the spin plan...

1. "Well, you know, losing the House is unfortunate, but you know this happens in mid-term elections, yadda yadda yadda."

2. "But Obama's personal charisma and strong message were crucial in soundly defeating extreme Right-Wing Tea Party Radical Christine O'Donnell in Delaware, and saving the Senate."

3. So mainstream media Nov. 3 headlines are "Republicans win House, but Obama helps turn back Tea Party tide in Senate."

That’s rather broad. If you think back, Delaware voters were ready and willing to give us Castle who by his record would have supported the republican position 52% of the time. If Coons who will support the republican position 0% of the time is elected, you might want to be more focused with your thanks.
