When he was elected in 2000, Minnesota Democrat Mark Dayton seemed well prepared, having worked as an aide to Walter Mondale in the 1970s. But he has exhibited erratic behavior since then:
...In February Dayton, 59, made another notable blunder. The Mayo Clinic, which is in Rochester, Minn., was opposed to a South Dakota based company's plan to expand its railroads into Rochester because it would mean dozens of trains passing by the clinic each day. Dayton told FORTUNE magazine the Mayo Clinic is "worth a hell of a lot more than the whole state of South Dakota." He later apologized for the remark.
Inside the Senate, Dayton has passed few bills partly because some are too liberal for the Republican-controlled body, including one that would have created a Department of Peace and Nonviolence.
He has confounded his colleagues by complaining about basic facts of the job, such as his limited power in a chamber where authority derives from seniority. He announced early last year that he wouldn't seek re-election.

Dayton v. Hanson
In the 2003 lawsuit, as issue was the question of wrongful termination in Office of Senator Mark Dayton v. Brad Hanson. The circumstances of the case were as follows: Brad Hanson worked as State Office Manager for Dayton. Hanson took medical leave for a heart problem and Senator Dayton fired him shortly thereafter. Hanson sued under the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995, claiming that Dayton had discriminated against him based on a perceived disability. Dayton argued that he was immunized from the suit by the “Speech or Debate Clause” of the United States Constitution. (The clause protects lawmakers from having legislative work questioned by courts.).[26]
Dayton claimed that Hanson’s duties were directly related to Dayton’s legislative functions, thus the decision to fire him could not be challenged.

Republican Tom Emmer has been a great candidate even as the liberal media goes after him;

Tom Emmers Job Creation Agenda calls for reducing three major taxes: expanding tax credits and exemptions; reforming public education for long-term competitiveness; and reforming the state governments regulatory processes and bureaucracies to lessen the burden on businesses and investors.
I think I have a vague memory of Dayton leaving Washington DC during the early months following 9/11. Due to fear and stress. I could be wrong but I thought I read that somewhere.
He hid under his desk on 9-11.
I live in Minnesota, this guy is a NUT. He was one of the worst Senators in Congress and he’s a rich boy looking for a job. He turned tail and ran during a crisis. Why would anybody respect him enough to elect him Governor of Minnesota. He’s an idiot!
I've spent the last ten years trying to scrape them out of my brain with a pickaxe. Sorry.

Lots of senators and congress-critters who hid under their desks for hours after the news started flowing on 9-11-01, later severely chastised President Bush for not flying back to DC for several minutes after he got the news of the attack.
