Bush: Elites “Didn’t Think I Could Read a Book, Much Less Write One”
FOXnews ^

Posted on 10/08/2010 12:31:23 PM PDT by fabrizio

In a rare public appearance, former President George W. Bush talked about life out of the limelight and took a jab at what the "elites" might be thinking of his upcoming book. "I have written a book. This will come as a shock to some of the elites. They didn't think I could read a book, much less write one," Bush quipped. Speaking at the University of Mobile in Alabama Thursday night, Bush talked about his memoir "Decision Points," [...] The 64-year-old said the tome gives some understanding to the decisions he made on tough issues like the handling of 9/11 and the Iraq war. The president, who has become a target of both Democrats and President Obama since he left office, refused to comment on the current state of political affairs. "[...] Frankly, I don't think it's good for the country to have a former president criticize his successor," Bush said. President Obama has repeatedly blamed the "Bush-era policies" for today's lethargic economic condition. "I loved being your president. But frankly, I'm having the time of my life not being your president," Bush said. "I do not miss the limelight. I have zero desire to be in the press. I have zero desire to be on your TV screens. Eight years is enough of that." But the former president will likely be back in the spotlight once his book hits bookshelves. The book, published by Crown Publishers, will be released November 9th with an initial run of 1.5 million copies. That's the same number of copies given to Former President Bill Clinton for his autobiography, "My Life." A statement from Crown Publishers claims the book will not be a conventional narrative, but rather a reflection of important decisions and moments in Bush's life.

Even those of us who didn't always agree with you miss you so much now Mr. President. You are one of the most honorable men ever to seat in the Oval Office,

I’d much prefer Bush to 0bama, that’s a given,

but he talks about “the Elites” as if he weren’t one of them.

Of course the LEFTIST elites shun him, but he didn’t do much to disempower them by shrinking the size of the bureaucracy.

He was an honorable President, and genuinely loves the US. I disagreed with much that he did as well, but I never worried that he was anti-American.

Bush was and remains awesome. I don’t care how many times I get bashed on FR, the man was an extraordinary leader and a worthy role model.

He saved this nation from tremendous harm. Those pains are now being unleashed on us and hopefully we will not have to go much further on that front.

My biggest hesitation in the current conservative movement is the disingenous effort to triangulate against Bush.

Bush was arguably more conservative and effectively conservative than Reagan and yet so many strident faux conservatives paint him as more liberal than Nixon or Ford. He was certainly more conservative than Ford, Nixon, and Bush 1— probably Reagan.

History cannot come fast enough and rewarding President Bush with a positive legacy as far as I am concerned.

The current President would have to get Bill Ayers to read it for him, and tell him what it says.

He loves the U.S. He loves our military. He loves America.

That’s the difference between him and the usurper in the oval now.

Frankly, I don't think it's good for the country to have a former president criticize his successor," Bush said.

You love your country... speaking out a little CAN help the country right now... the other past presidents speak out, you can/should speak for the side of truth.

Karl Rove and W used to have a book reading contests every year.

W won most of the time IIRC, reading 90+ including the Bible cover to cover.

IMHO, his biggest fault was "reaching across the isle." Every time he did, he came back with a bloody stup at the end of his arm.

The pack of theives, liars and power mongers that constitute the modern Democrat party can not be trusted. The care nothing about working together for the good of the nation and to pretend they do is beyond foolish.

I would have thought Bush a fair president but he sold the USA down the river on border issues.
