Although Democratic Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. has held the congressional seat of the 6th district of New Jersey for 22 years, his challenger believes he has lost touch with his constituents.
"There's a disconnect between the people of district six and their elected representative," said Anna Little, the Republican candidate facing Pallone. "He does not listen to them. He thinks he knows better than they do, and they are irate."
But Pallone feels the opposite and believes he is in touch with his constituents, especially students, considering the University falls within his district's territory.
"A main issue I've been working on is trying to help students to get additional help paying for college education, because I'm concerned about the fact that the cost of tuition and the cost of an education is rising," he said. "I don't want the cost to continue to go up."

Ley him THINK that!
News spreads FAST when fellow graduates can’t get jobs!
Little has been hitting the JOBS/JOBS/JOBS theme throughout her campaign. New Jersey’s economy is stagnant, and students are graduating to jobs at the local McDonalds and Starbucks.
I know a young man who worked at the local Friendly’s Ice Cream restaurant all through high school. He went away to college, and now, after four years, he is starting again at Friendly’s, because that was the only job he could get. And if they didn’t remember him from before, he wouldn’t have gotten that job!
She is on talk radio alot and is very good.
All you see are empty office buildings or some partially occupied with Sale/Lease signs. It will take a long time to get companies back.
I believe Hoffman LaRoche has totally pulled out of New Jersey. Last I read they planned on moving to San Francisco - dopes! It has to be worse there.
My neighbors on both sides and behind my house are all working off the books. The number of people working “real” tax-paying jobs in New Jersey goes down a little more every day.
It’s funny, I was talking to a fellow at work who I have gone round-de-round with over one issue or another a few times over the years. He is a good guy, but sometimes you wind up on opposite sides of an issue, you know?
Anyway, he said that nothing about his job bothers him anymore. He wants to come in to work every day and kiss the ground, because he has a job. Nobody wants to be looking for work, these days. Jobs are just not to be had, particularly in New Jersey.
To have a job in New Jersey is almost like a status symbol.
It really is bad. Christie has his work cut out for him.
Yup!
Pallone didn’t do much to try to save Fort Monmouth. Now 5000 good paying jobs are going to Maryland along with the NJ State Income Tax, Sales Tax and local taxes that all those workers paid. Also kiss goodbuy all the $$$$ that fort employees spent with local business.
OOPS my post should have read “goodbye” instead of goodbuy.
The story I heard was that back when BRAC was considering closing Ft. Monmouth, Pallone had interested developers all lined up to build McMansions and make a huge profit on the closure (some of which would go back to Pallone’s coffers, natch!). Now, of course, the Real Estate market is shot, and McMansions lie incomplete all over the district, and nobody is going to make any money off the closure.
A Monmouth University poll shows Frank Pallone leading Anna Little by 53% to 41% among likely voters, even though Little leads among independent likely voters by 51% to 38%; Monmouth risibly claims that Little leads among Republican likely voters by only 83% to 13% while Pallone leads among Democrat likely voters by 89% to 8%. But the biggest problem with the poll is that its likely-voter sample (by self-reported party ID) was 41% Democrat, 22% Republican and 37% independent, meaning that they oversampled Democrats and undersampled Republicans. I would guess that, in a poll with a sample closer to what turnout is likely to look like on November 2 and with Pallone not winning as many Republicans as Monmouth claims, Pallone’s lead would be around 48% to 46%, making this a much closer race than the pundits believe.
Here’s the poll: http://www.monmouth.edu/polling/admin/polls/MUP37_NJ06.pdf
An upset by Anna Little would be a major victory for the TEA Party.
It is all about turnout. Anna’s Army is a turnout machine.
I don’t think Pallone has the ground game to do a decent job of getting out the vote. This is going to cost him dearly on Election Day.
Little, on the other hand, has been working on the ground game since the day she announced before the primary. That is what got her past Diane Gooch, and that is what will get her past Frank Pallone.
Remember, the conventional wisdom was that Gooch would win the primary by 15 points. Where is Diane Gooch today? Do not underestimate the power of a competent GOTV effort. Anna Little has done this before. She knows how to get her voters to the polls.
In a case of Hell freezing over, Monmouth University responded to critics of its Democrat oversample that resulted in Pallone leading by 12% overall while trailing by 13% among independents (I guess I wasn’t the only guy who noticed that) and has admitted that it’s methodology was wrong in its NJ-06 poll. It corrected its numbers and now show Republican Anna Little trailing by only 9%, 51%-42%: http://www.politickernj.com/42096/little-camp-responds-monmouth-poll-adjustment
I think they still have too many Democrats in that sample, and with the type of turnout expected Little probably trails by only 48%-46% or so.
Good job!
A victory by Anna Little would be a big triumph. Frank Pallone hasn’t had a close race since the 1990’s.
GOP polls shows Anna Little down by only 1%, 44%-43%, in the NJ-06 against Pallone: http://www.politickernj.com/back_room/national-research-poll-shows-pallone-barely-ahead-little-44-43
A win by Anna Little would be a great triumph for New Jersey conservatives.
