Pallone didn’t do much to try to save Fort Monmouth. Now 5000 good paying jobs are going to Maryland along with the NJ State Income Tax, Sales Tax and local taxes that all those workers paid. Also kiss goodbuy all the $$$$ that fort employees spent with local business.

The story I heard was that back when BRAC was considering closing Ft. Monmouth, Pallone had interested developers all lined up to build McMansions and make a huge profit on the closure (some of which would go back to Pallone’s coffers, natch!). Now, of course, the Real Estate market is shot, and McMansions lie incomplete all over the district, and nobody is going to make any money off the closure.
