"My son's losing hope" Obama: But we passed health care and took over student loan industry
Radio Vice Online ^ | Sept. 30, 2010 | Steve McGough

Broken record indeed. The only answer President Obama has in response to questions like the one asked yesterday in Iowa is that he knows times are tough, but at least kids have health care until they are 26 and the government took over the “terrible” student loan system.

The president answered the "my son's losing hope" question with his standard BS answer ... which means NOTHING to the kid or the mom. They are running on the passed health care legislation and taking over the student loan market!

That's REALLY what they are running on!

So if little Johnny doesn't have a job how's he going to pay the government (me) back Mr. President?

My kids already know the dangers of socialism, and the Dem party which really are the same.
They’re 9,7 and 12.

I cannot for the life of me understand why some say that they have a kid who are far lefty’s or an obama voter.
If you bring up your kids and talk to them every day then they will not be influenced by the media, teachers or anyone else.

My son's losing hope

Your son, I'm sorry to say, sounds pathetic. Did he get it from his old man?

Do I understand correctly that the student loan program will be under the IRS & any default by a student cannot be forgiven - even with bankruptcy??

In 1997 the Clinton Administration changed the rules on student loans to lift the partial shield from collection action due to bankruptcy. The result was the Higher Education Act of 1997, which changed student debt from having some (mild) protection to being easiest type of debt to collect.

Debt collectors can grab it from your wages, your home, your retirement, even your Social Security, for life.

This also applies to parents who co-sign student loans.

RE: "'my son's losing hope'"

Lady tell your son that it is all about choices... so what degree did he get? If it is a real degree... you know one that is in a marketable discipline? If so, he should pack his bags and find an area of the country that needs what he has to offer.

If he has one of those touchy feely kind of bleeding heart liberal arts degrees (like women's studies or some such)... he needs to get good at flipping burgers and asking "You want fries with that?"

Don't expect us taxpayers to support your limp wristed son.

... the government took over the “terrible” student loan system.

So Mr.President, you and your cohorts in Congress have taken a private enterprise activity whose operation generated tax revenue and employment and have shifted it into the government where it adds to government employment and consumes tax revenue. In its previous form, a consumer could move his business to another institution if dissatisfied but now it is one government size fits all. If there were serious problems one could enlist state or federal authorities to take on large banks etc., now who goes against the Feds themselves? Add to this IRS enforcement and this is an improvement?!?!? Give me a break.

/no sarcasm - just truth!

Took over the student loan system indeed. The loan I applied for went from 13% to 25% and the 25% isn’t the cap. It can go as high as it wants and after 5 years it gets capped at the highest rate during the course of the loan.

Got a letter today from my employer about next year’s insurance rates for retirees. Rates are up and it mentioned that children could be covered until age 26, even if they are married and don’t live with you.

"Student loans cannot be discharged through bankruptcy for quite some time."

Thanks for letting me know. I don't know anyone that had one & didn't have much interest in them until Bozo started patting himself on the back about it.
