After seeing what tea-party-backed candidates did to moderate Republicans in primary elections, moderate Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe is taking no chances. The Maine senator is talking up the tea party movement, even though shes not up for re-election until 2012, Roll Call reports.
Ive been a Republican for all of my political life, since I was registered to vote, she told the paper. Ive been at the forefront of a number of anti-spending initiatives [and] fiscal issues. I agree with tea-party types when they say that the Republican Party lost its way. I agree. I was arguing that case for many years.
The Republican Party should serve as a big tent, Snowe says. Its where I grew up. Its where I grew in the Legislature in learning how to govern and how to legislate which is to build bridges. Thats what Maine has been all about.

All principles of the Tea Party movement will be surrendered if this happens.
Fortunately, it will not.
The Tea Party is energized and is NOT stupid.

If she votes right the next two years, then ...what? No point drawing a line in the sand now.
To: bestintxas
I figured she was going to retire. She will have a tough go at it if she runs. I still think she will not run.
To: bestintxas
She's a Tea Praty target for 2012.

Snowe would need a brain transplant. Maybe she’s been in contact with Morecowsky?

Also remember that Snowe was the vote that let Obamacare out of committee. That is an unforgivable sin.

Maine's Snowe Courts Tea Party Early for 2012 Re-election... Huh??? You mean she isn't yet tired of being a senator? Did she think about that before becoming a reliable Reid vote?

For some, Conservatism is a political strategy, not a core value.
To: bestintxas
Hey, if she votes conservative and sticks to those guns I’ll take a deathbed convert.

You may be spending too much time from noon to 3 listening to the radio. LOL - an on the mark assessment though.
