Anna C. Little, the Republican candidate for Congress in the 6th District, can't afford big media ad buys and doesn't have the franking privilege. So she has elevated the one thing remaining to her--going door-to-door--to a high art.
Because one woman alone can scarcely knock on thousands of doors in a modern US congressional district, Little has created an "army" of volunteers. They will go to a town, fan out in pairs or small clusters, make hundreds of telephone calls, and knock on a thousand or more doors. This is how Little won the June 8 primary, despite being out-fundraised twenty-to-one. And against a much-better funded opponent (Frank Pallone), this is her best option, and she knows it.
Their first target, on July 24, was Dunellen, where, according to Little, about 25 voluntters made just under 5,000 calls and 1,000 home visits, this during one of the worst heat waves that New Jersey has ever seen. On July 31, "Anna's Army" struck again, this time in Matawan with 50 volunteers, for 3,000 telephone calls and 1,700 direct visits. (Actually, a commenter at this poll claimed 2,700 visits, though that might be a typographical error.)
The third target was South Amboy, where Little claimed 700 telephone calls and 1,800 direct home visits. These numbers form a pattern showing that "Anna's Army" much prefers to knock on someone's door rather than make a telephone call. A voice on the telephone is a voice on the telephone, and as far as the one receiving the call is concerned, that voice could be ten miles away, or a hundred, or a thousand. But a knock on the door means a face-to-face visit, carrying far more immediate impact, if only by replacing a disembodied voice with one with flesh and blood behind it.
Little's next target is Aberdeen, her largest target thus far, with 3,900 households. Little called Aberdeen her "first real test" and invited the press to, as it were, embed with "Anna's Army" this Saturday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Town and Country Diner, Route 35N at Broadway, Keyport, NJ. 10:30 is her "H-hour." The Dunellen canvass took six hours; the Matawan canvass, four.
Frank Pallone is toast!
I know nothing about her platform or her positions, but you have to admire her moxie.
Anna Little is the real deal. She’s “Tea Party Approved”, earning the endorsement of the major Tea Party groups in this area.
She’s right on government spending, limiting growth of government, obamacare, cap & trade, Life, 2A and just about everything else. You could not ask for a better candidate.
Anna Little’s Motto: “Little Government is Good Government!” - You gotta love that!
And she is putting together a strong ground game. Frank Pallone (D - Lifer) is in for a big surprise. This twelfth re-election was his last! Little is going to win in November.
Highland Mayor Anna Little is a bona fide conservative who beat a multimillionaire RINO in the primary and is breathing down the neck of liberal Democrat Pallone in the general. There is definitely substance to go along with her moxie.
Anna Littles Motto: Little Government is Good Government!
...I don’t know how she expects to become a czar with that kinda talk. :)
nice tag...I may need to borrow it...lol
Frankly, it has been a long time since I have anybody explain basic conservative principles with such logic and eloquence. Too many conservatives come off as wild-eyed and hysterical. Of course, we have every right to be PO’ed, but it serves our cause better to talk in reasonable, measure tones.
Anna Little does that perfectly, IMHO. She is going to go far.
I put her sign out on my front lawn a couple of weeks ago...... and it’s still there. I think she’ll carry the day with Monmouth County putting her over the top.
Feel free. I stole it from a T-shirt...
It is good to see the Little campaign making strides in the portion s of NJ-6 that lie North of the Raritan River. There are a lot of voters up here, and they are usually neglected. Anna can pick up a lot of votes here.
We have a physician here in my state who is using this approach. He always has someone with him to take notes, so he can focus on what each household member has to say. I think he’ll win!
The Bayshore Tea Party has been instrumental in putting her on the map. They are such a dedicated group.
That's real "Hope"... Not like the canned "Come save me, Uncle Sugar" hope-substitute that Obama is peddling...
I live in Middletown; please put me on any ping list that involves the Bayshore Tea Party's activities.
my 2-man team from Connecticut does 800 houses in a 10-hour day. Of course, we run door-to-door, rather than walk.
we are on sabbatical ... as few GOP candidates appreciate this type of activity ... many of them scoff. One guy here bragged that not one volunteer rang a single doorbell during his entire campaign. The GOP culture is sickening in Connecticut.
I wish her well, but she’s walking a tough road - there are probably something like 200,000 households in her district.
The best move she could have made... but she didn’t reinvent anything, conservative activism has been out there for quite a while, it’s just been looked upon with disdain by many ... until now!!!
It’s been a while since anybody ran such a large ground-pounding type campaign in this area. But media in the ground between New York and Philadelphia is so expensive, an insurgent campaign has no alternative.
That is why we so rarely get change-over in New Jersey. Only incumbents on the take have enough money to run a media-intensive campaign.
