Its the film the teachers unions dont want you to see.
The revelatory documentary Waiting for Superman opened Friday to parents cheers and union howls.
The film follows five families trying desperately to escape failing traditional public schools in favor of charter schools and it profiles education reformers rebuilding a national school system thats in ruins.
The unions panned the flick, naturally: It exposes how they drag kids down into the swamp, spotlighting how bad teachers are passed from school to school and how all-but-automatic tenure allows even the worst teachers to stay on the job.
But the most crushing scenes show the public lotteries that determine which kids will get the painfully few spots in charter schools theyre aching to enter. Tearful audience members called it heartbreaking.
Unions called it manipulative [and] deceptive, and bashed charters for trying to lure kids with the false and absurd premise that school choice matters.
False and absurd? Tell that to the thousands of parents who line up for the lotteries every year. And tell that to the kids stuck in failing schools.
Some educators are already standing up for the film. As one Michigan teacher and union rep told The Post: Some of the union stuff is a huge obstacle to progress.
To put it mildly.

Public employee unions should be disbanded and outlawed.
You mean, like every Hollywood movie about American capitalism ever made?
Interesting, it’s directed by Davis Guggenheim, same guy who directed ‘An Inconvenient Truth’.
And now the Newark, NJ school system is going to get $100,000,000
Governor Christie should know better.
This will disappear down the rathole much as the trillion dollar stimulus disappeared with NO positive results.
Won’t happen with this administration.

Public school teachers union is one of the most vile orgs ever.
The demoKKKrat party claims to represent the common man... And yet, the two major sources of funding for the party are the trial lawyers’ organization and public service unions, particularly the NEA, the interests of both of which are diametrically opposed to those of the ordinary citizen. This needs to be pointed out to the world, on an hourly basis.
Thanks for the post. My favorite new education line is, “They tell us the KIDS NEED the money for education, then they buy new chairs for the adminstration offices.”
I have a relative who’s a high school teacher, but also a leader in the local teachers union.
She spends more of her time and attention on union activities than she does on teaching her students.
it is LONG past time that ‘public education’ is put out of its misery...property taxes could be slashed by 75%.
Word.
To lie so blatantly is simple evil.
All I've ever seen it accomplish is to keep a poor, low functioning teacher employed.
Years ago, I even had a choice whether or not I wanted to join the union. Now I have no choice. I never sign up but they take the money from my paycheck anyway. No union---no job!
When a moonbat like Davis Guggenheim makes a movie like this, it must be really, really, really bad.
Even moonbats cares about their children when they allow them to be born.
Some? Only some?
You know I’ve been watching this unfold over the last two weeks or so. Including quite a few interviews with union members and representatives.
EVERY SINGLE TIME they get interviewed, it goes something like this:
We don’t want bad teachers in the system BUT....
We want the kids to get the best education they can BUT...
We support various kinds of teacher assessment/evaluation techniques BUT...
Whole lotta BUTTS, eh?
**Public employee unions should be disbanded and outlawed.**
Agreed! As Public employees can only get pay increases and benifits by extortion in the form of higher taxes on working people.
One of the very first things this admin. did was to eliminate the D.C. schools' voucher program. Obama is owned by the teacher's union.
