Right. People think that that the media has 2 choices with Sarah and Christine - praise and trash. Ignore is the 3rd option.

People say “oh, if the media spent the time praising Sarah and Christine instead of trashing them, they’d be more popular.” Yes. But why would they do that? The media tries to get Democrats elected.

What they easily could’ve done is ignore Palin. Talk about Palin as little as possible. All the attacks from the media only serve to raise Palin up as the opposition to them.

Right. Provided they keep attacking her, that just builds viewership for her national TV appearance, where she hits a home run. She did great on Hannity last time. I think she’s a much more interesting person to 18-34s in Delaware right now, and if she’s at a college campus giving a speech, students would show up to see her. Coons, not so much.

There’s no way to know. Palin would not necessarily be in the top spot right now (and she is) without the attention. The media cemented Palins position as the conservative they love to hate, and they talked about her non stop. People who hate the media love her more. The media attacks make her the one.

The media is not going to be praising conservatives unless and until things change a lot.

You mean the GOP candidate for vice president of the United States? You mean after the election, allowing her the space to build her place as the new super star of the GOP and simply cover her like they do democrat politicians of that stature and letting her pace her own image, at her own rate, for instance staying in office in Alaska rather than having to devote 24 hours a day in the lower 48, to saving her political future from this incredible, non stop, media assault?

Bad publicity, negative name branding, and radicalizing their image and positions, does not help a candidate running for president.

Do you really not know about Dan Quayle?

But it was foreseeable that that’s what they’d talk about. It’s SNL. If you know that a candidate has talked on tv about masturbation and has gotten famous, and that SNL likes to talk about masturbation, it’s pretty easy to guess that SNL might want to talk about Christine. SNL thinks masturbation is funny.

I grasp your argument.

You think that the media would be praising conservatives if they weren’t attacking her.

That the media had to talk about her. And the only question would be whether they praise her or attack her.

The media could’ve ignored her.

Palin is at the top spot. Not Mitt Gingabee.

Christine goes and wins. You might say “oh, but she would’ve won by so much more had the media not attacked her”
Who knows that?

Christine and Sarah do not equal conservatism. Your statement about Conservatism has merit.

By attacking Palin and O’Donnell specifically, it raises them up above the pack. Attacking conservativism doesn’t have the same effect.

Are you a drug user? This is beyond belief.

SNL might be trying to attack Sarah and Christine to do harm.

It did not work with Palin.

Palin is at the top spot.

They were able to damage Quayle, no doubt. They try the same thing on Palin, it didn’t work. Quayle was the VP. Was not the Presidential nominee in 96.

The media could’ve ignored Palin and O’Donnell. That would’ve hurt, especially Palin.

When you’re a conservative, your choices are to be attacked or ignored. If you’re a female star, or have the starpower, like Sarah and Christine, you’re better off being attacked.
Because people will know who you are.

If there’s no controversy surrounding Christine, she does not have 2.5+ million in contributions.

The other option is to be completely ignored by the media.

Christine would have no money if that was the case.

There are a lot of candidates who have no national name ID.

Wargotz in MD, right next door to Christine, running against Barbara M. No one knows him. Who won the Rep Primary to run against Schumer? Who is running against Inouye? Against Wyden in Oregon?

Christine has more money than Miller Angle and Paul. In a more liberal state than Alaska Nevada and Kentucky. She wins, there’s no controversy, nobody knows about Christine O’Donnell, she gets no money and her chances to win are diminished.

Listen, more people here agree with me. You can keep typing over and over again.

They know that free “earned” media is good.

I give up.

It’s like talking to a wall.

I know all about Quayle. I know that they’re trying to do to Palin what they did to Quayle. But the point I’m making is that it’s not working. Maybe the media isn’t as powerful as it was 16 years ago.

Maybe it doesn’t work on women? I don’t know. What I can say is that Palin is at the top spot. There’s a lot that Palin doesn’t have. She wasn’t a billionaire, so she couldn’t use immense resources to make things happen. She wasn’t well known prior to being picked, so there was no national fundraising base. And on and on. Romney had or has those things, and he is not at the top spot, Palin is. She is the one people are talking about.

My argument is simply that she’s at the top spot. The proof is in the pudding.

We can’t know what would’ve happened if the media refused to cover her. If what Sarah wrote on her facebook wasn’t news. Not covered. If everything she did was just met with a big ol yawn. It didn’t happen that way.

In theory, yes, of course you’re right. She was hounded out of office which was bad, very very bad. Of course, that allows her to hang out down here instead of doing boring stuff no one cares about in Alaska, to change the experience number from 2. something to 4. She can’t be campaigning down in the lower 48 if she’s governing in Alaska.

If she wasn’t hounded with stupid ethics complaints, she wouldn’t have had an excuse to quit.

It seems that people are just so emotionally wedded to the idea of Sarah as victim and Christine as victim, that the clear benefits to the attacks are ignored.

It seems on some threads that people all applaud and clap for each other when we go “waaaaahhhh, the mean media is attacking Sarah or Christine again”. People do understand that the media is mean, and Sarah and Christine do get sympathy from people who know that the media is being unfair.
