Dakota Dreaming. The presidential hopes of John Thune (long read)
Weekly Standard ^ | October 4, 2010 | Stephen F. Hayes

Posted on 09/25/2010 7:23:22 AM PDT by paudio

John Thune is likely to run for president in 2012. If he wins the nomination, it will be because he is an exceptionally skilled retail politician who can communicate a kind of midwestern, common sense conservatism that is ascendant in reaction to liberal profligacy. It will be because of skills and values he learned in Murdo.

Thune doesn’t seem to bright to me what does Ellsworth Air Force Base(Defense Dept.) have to do with U.N. ambassador(Diplomatic Service.) I’m having a hard time finding the linkage here.

Seems conservative. Very telegenic. But he comes across as a squishy get-a-longer, IMO.

I see him on Greta every now and then (about the only show he appears on) and he has no fire or pulse.

Playing to his voters?
I am remembering it now and was very disappointed in his failure to back Bolton.

Amen. I don’t want any of the hacks who have tried before back in the 2012 race. I could go for Thune or Cain or any of the top tier Repubs.

The Weekly Standard can be counted on to push rinos at every turn. Thune may not be the very definition of a rino, but like someone else said..he has no pulse and plays along to get along. They love Romney too...nuff said.

I think Senator Thune is a wonderful man and good a conservative senator.

I actually took the time to read the very lengthy article, which served to reinforce my thinking that our side needs all the strong senators in the US Senate so that we can actually repeal obamacare in 2013.

If Senator Thune wants to make a run at the presidential nomination in 2012, he will have my best wishes, but not my support.

Personally, I think thune is the perfect pick for 2012 to beat obama.

Thune scares the literal crap out of the left and they admit as much. He is not polarizing or gaffe prone and will literally decimate obama.

I’ve yet to see evidence of the Left’s fear of Senator Thune.

I’ve yet to see evidence of the Left’s fear of Senator Thune.

Me either. Maybe GlockThe Vote can provide some details on that.

As for your earlier comment, I'm sure Thune is a good guy but after the Bolton incident, the trust factor would be a stumbling block for me. I'm through voting for people I can't trust for president.

Like I said, John Thune and other good, conservative senators belong in the US Senate, if we’re going to repeal obamacare in 2013.

Election ‘08 was an anomaly, in that a senator was going to be elected POTUS one way or the other. 2012 won’t see a senator as our nominee.

GlockThe Vote just told me to “look it up”.

No, that’s not how it works. The one who made the claim provides the proof, or the claim is dismissed. Thanks.

Look it up. The spokeswoman for the dnc admitted he is obamas worst nightmare.

Afterward she was seen leaving the podium clutching a copy of "Bre'r Rabbit and the Tarbaby" and whistling... /g

literally decimate obama

How does reducing 0bama by 10% do anything productive?

Decimate: reduce by 10 percent.

destroy: self explanatory.

For the love of everything Holy, WORDS MEAN THINGS!

Use the CORRECT word if you are trying to say something powerful.

If you don't know the correct word, use a dictionary or SAY NOTHING!

It is far better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt...

For those who try to refute my assertion on misuse of the word "decimate":

Just because so many miss the space between "a" and "lot", creating the NON-word "alot", does that make it a new word, or just proof of ignorance, laziness or worse?
