Dakota Dreaming. The presidential hopes of John Thune (long read)
Weekly Standard ^ | October 4, 2010 | Stephen F. Hayes

Posted on 09/25/2010 7:23:22 AM PDT by paudio

John Thune is likely to run for president in 2012. If he wins the nomination, it will be because he is an exceptionally skilled retail politician who can communicate a kind of midwestern, common sense conservatism that is ascendant in reaction to liberal profligacy. It will be because of skills and values he learned in Murdo.

Thune is in top tier, but I still like Pence/Palin.

“If he wins the nomination, it will be because he is an exceptionally skilled retail politician who can communicate a kind of midwestern, common sense conservatism that is ascendant in reaction to liberal profligacy.”

Fascinating that Sarah’s campaign slogan - common sense conservatism - shows up a lot now.

Are you teaching your kids to talk like that?

Why do idiots like you insist on giving this forum a bad reputation? We are facing enough of a struggle, we don’t need people like you forcing us to take a step back with every two forward.

I would prefer Herman Cain to Thune, but anybody but that Romney.

I think it’s a safe bet John Bolton won’t be in Thune’s corner. LOL

You noticed that too, eh?

Besides being a senator, Thune seems pretty good, although I read that he was one of the GOPers who opposed John Bolton. That bothers me a bit.

Crybaby Voinovich from Ohio was the other.

Sorry, but I'll never vote for Thune because of THIS:

Another Republican joins the “maverick” club: Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), the man who defeated Tom Daschle, has announced he will not vote for Bush U.N. ambassador nominee John Bolton. Thune says his opposition is payback for the Pentagon’s recommendation to close Ellsworth Air Force Base. Thune now claims that Bolton “is not the best man for the job.”

According to whom?

My take is he's a stealth RINO.

I get the feeling he and Pawlenty might split a few moderate votes in the midwest.

I looked it up for a thread last week and can’t find the link..I am not declaring I will vote for him..just saying what I read..He votes for his constituants’ interests it seems...(big farm bill that Bush vetoed..IIRC)
He is a social conservative I also read.
It is too early for me to get too attached to ANY candidate.
Everyone I supported for 2008 fell one by one.

Coon is a us senate candidate in Delaware. You all can look through my posts since 2004 and you won’t find anything racist. I should have know how it would be taken and therefore should not have put it. I’ll be more careful in the future. I’m sorry and it won’t happen again.

I don’t run in circles where I have to turn on a racial sensitivity filter so I didn’t catch it before I got a good chiding. Sorry to all, including any DUmmies who may think I am a racist.
