The RNC has sent more than $129K to an Anchorage law firm to cover legal bills incurred during former Gov. Sarah Palin's (R-AK) run for vice president, a senior party official tells Hotline On Call.
The party cut the check on Sept. 1 to Clapp, Peterson, Van Flein, Tiemessen & Thorsness LLC, an Anchorage law firm that defended Palin from myriad ethics charges following her campaign. Political opponents in Alaska filed complaints against Palin surrounding her travel during and after the campaign.
Palin cited those complaints, and the amount of time they consumed, when she resigned from office last summer.
"The disbursement relates to legal fees incurred during the summer and fall of 2008, when Democrats engaged in a partisan witch hunt against Gov. Palin. Based on conversations in 2008, the RNC decided to step in to help," said Doug Heye, the RNC's communications director.

Yawn and typical.
They are all frivolous charges or Palin would have been indicted by now. Too bad this doesn’t blow back on the false accusers.
So? How much of O’s campaign funds have gone to lawyers and others to hide his birth certificate and other records?
Misleading headline alert! The headline makes it seem like the RNC is paying for current-day services whereas the very first sentence tells us this is related to her run as McCain’s VP. Somebody call the bailiff.
Well, the money costs mounted and mounted because of bad law and frivolous lawsuits by a few Democrats out to get Palin.
Apparently you can sue the governor in Alaska and no matter how frivolous it is, the governor has to pay your legal bills. Maybe we should consider doing the same thing to a few Democrat politicians.
The more effective the scare to the rats brings more rat lawyers to file more suits.
Great tactic!
Remember that DUmmie post last week about a friend at the RNC stating that the GOP was going to try and take Palin down this fall...?
At least part of the $129K (I suspect) is to cover the troopergate legal fees that Palin, in her book, said that the McCain campaign committed to pay and never did.
There were also several ethics charges filed as a result of AK state employees traveling with Palin during the campaign to help her with state business. All were dismissed but legal expenses were incurred. Good to see Michael Steele stepping up on this.
They are paying our gal’s 2008 legal bills! So!!!
Steele is only “stepping up” to keep his job. Steele is a hack freeloading on the RNC because he is black.
They are paying Democrat harassment bills.
Don’t forget the $50,000 vetting bill that McCain left her with.
You’re right. That’s what I was thing of, not troopergate. I knew there was something in dispute with the McCain campaign.
Same here. I forgot about the vetting bill.
They should pay them, after all it was the mccain’t bunch to helped throw her under the bus after the elections, even though without her, mccain’t wouldn’t even have gotten “honorable mention” in the election.
I saw an article several months ago where BO’s legal fees were already several Million dollars. I would think there are a lot of sources on the internet which would provide up-to-date info because of his desire to be transparent and all.
Bookmarking for the next ‘quitter troll’....lol.
Last I heard - and this was some time ago - they had exceeded two million dollars and had come from his campaign warchest. For someone who doesn’t have anything to hide, he’s sure spending a lot of $$ hiding it!
