For the second time in a week, Peter Orszag has zinged his former boss.
Former OMB Director Peter Orszag (Photo by Karen Bleier/AFP/Getty Images) Orszag, who just left his job as President Barack Obamas budget chief, said Sunday that the presidents policy of making the Bush-era tax cuts permanent for middle-income families would jeopardize the nations finances. Last week, he made the same argument in a New York Times column that took the White House by surprise.
We, unfortunately, cant afford the tax cuts over the medium and long term, Orszag said on CNNs Fareed Zakaria GPS. We face too large a deficit out in 2015, 2018, 2020.
Orszag called for extending all of the Bush-era cuts for two more years and then letting all of them expire. He emphasized that the temporary extension should apply to all income earners, even the wealthy another point on which the White House disagrees. Obama has said he wants the tax cuts to lapse for families with incomes above $250,000.

I wonder if it has occurred to any of our beltway pundits that Orszag, like Romer, is totally clueless about the economy. Maybe Austen frickin'Goolsby (of all people) has the answer.

From the article:
We, unfortunately, cant afford the tax cuts over the medium and long term, Orszag said on CNNs Fareed Zakaria GPS. We face too large a deficit out in 2015, 2018, 2020.
If Zero counted his taxes before they hatched then ALL the estimates the CBO gave were wrong by him planning on NEVER renewing the cuts, and then having to back-pedal.
He CAN NOT EVEN sign a Middle Class Tax Cut, and have the numbers he gave CBO stand-up.
Hes already spent the money, and from what Orszag is projecting, all the way until 2020.
Now all Boehner has to do to put Zero back on defense is add the "and make them permanent" to agreeing to the Middle Class Tax Cut renewal.
Osszag just said he can't afford to do it.
This puts the economic ball back in ZERO's court BIG TIME with less than 6-7 weeks until Nov 2nd.
If this is true and the news gets out it could REALLY PO a lot of people who are already mad as hell with him and his economic antics.

then letting all of them expire”
Can someone please help me with my question? When President Bush passed his tax policy, did it have an actually expiration date on it? I don’t remember there ever being one, so when Obama uses this term, it just seems like another way of deflecting blame for passing unpopular policy.

“an actually expiration date on it? “
Yes and 2010 is the expiration date.Without a vote to make the cuts permanent, they go away. Same with the estate tax.

It's really quite simple, actually, and I'm surprised that so many college-educated nimrods can't seem to get it (but then, I do suppose that lobotomies are now mandatory when you join the democrat party, aren't they): no tax increases until costs are cut - no tax increases until social entitlements are a thing of the past and the only remaining programs are those for the desperately poor, and have been intentionally designed to ensure that you cannot enjoy a comfy living off the benefits provided (unless, of course, you are seriously and permanently disabled, like having been born with Down's Syndrome - my apologies to anyone who is offended by the refernce - in which case the problem of freeloaders will simply not exist).

This guy can’t even manage his own hair let alone the economy. Since Barry doesn’t have any clue what he is doing he relies on hiring eggheads from the brand name ivy league universities who generally have no real world experience. Much as elitist upper class ladies buy Chanel or Prada, Barry hires from Harvard or Princeton.
