...A traveler from Ghana tried to bring 14 Giant African Land Snails into the US...one of the worst invasive species...could have been devastating to crops.

Unless these are good eating ("I'll have the escargot...and super-size 'em"), I can't think of a reason to do this other than economic warfare (crop destruction). Somebody please tell me I'm wrong.

They are good eating - they're a West African delicacy - and some people also fancy them as pets, but if they ever got into the wild they'd be incredibly destructive.

Amen to that. The garden snails that plague us here are quite literally descendants of escaped escargot snails that a homesick frenchman brought over in the 1850s to raise and eat.

I worked a tech gig with APHIS, the part of the Department of Agriculture that handles these checks. Often people bring in plants and animals because it reminds them of home. I think the snails were for eating. Other stuff gets in inadvertently through freight shipments. There’s a system to check what’s coming into the country and pick out the suspicious stuff, but it’s aimed at freight, the biggest bulk of imports.

I wish I would have saved it, but 9 years ago (right after the 9/11 attacks), there was a giant thread on FR with a BUNCH of pics of arab "art".

They depicted our land and population being devastated by bugs and pestilance (West Nile virus anyone?) In all of them, there was always a horse running through the background, that was supposed to represent the arab.
