ALBUQUERQUE - New Mexico voters strongly disapprove of the state's policy of giving driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, and a majority of them give a thumbs-up to Arizona's new immigration law, according to a poll released Sunday by the Albuquerque Journal.
According to the poll, 53 percent favor Arizona's law, 35 percent disapprove, 7 percent have mixed feelings and 5 percent don't know or wouldn't say.
Hispanic voters agreed with the majority on the state's driver's license policy and supported the city of Albuquerque's new policy of checking immigrant status of anyone who is arrested. However, only 39 percent of the Hispanics polled said they supported the Arizona law and 48 percent opposed it.

Why wouldn’t New Mexican Hispanics be unhappy with illegal immigrants and the state’s failure to protect its citizens? Hispanics are hurt by this nonsense too.
If they don’t do something soon that 35% that disaproves will eventually turn to 55%+, and that 55% won’t be Americans.
HUGE.
Exactly, that’s why this is noteworthy.
Hispanics in New Mexico tradionally are directly descended from Spanish conquistadors. (Santa Fe is the oldest city in the continental U.S.) They are not newer arrivals from Old Mexico, and it’s only been a matter of time before they say “Basta” to the illegals.

We have a cousin by marriage who is “hispanic” in California and his ancestors go back 200+ years, to Spanish colonial days.
He is conservative, but sensitive on these racial category issues.
I understand his sensitivity, insofar that people like him are uncomfortable with “profiling.”
