Hispanics in New Mexico tradionally are directly descended from Spanish conquistadors. (Santa Fe is the oldest city in the continental U.S.) They are not newer arrivals from Old Mexico, and it’s only been a matter of time before they say “Basta” to the illegals.

We have a cousin by marriage who is “hispanic” in California and his ancestors go back 200+ years, to Spanish colonial days.
He is conservative, but sensitive on these racial category issues.
I understand his sensitivity, insofar that people like him are uncomfortable with “profiling.”
