Texas [Dem] Lawmaker Repays $31,000 to Foundation [diverted to family members]
WSJ ^ | 9/2/2010 | ANN ZIMMERMAN

Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, a longtime Texas Congresswoman, repaid from personal funds about $31,000 to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation after disclosures that she had awarded scholarships meant for needy students to her relatives and those of her staff...

"While I have unknowingly made a mistake and am, too, disappointed by this, I will continue my fight towards making opportunities for eligible young people and under-represented populations," Rep. Johnson said in a statement...

The foundation, a nonprofit group that seeks the advancement of African-Americans, provides help for college-bound students by awarding money it receives through private donations. Every year, the foundation awards $10,000 to each member of the Congressional Black Caucus to distribute among worthy candidates in their districts, usually in amounts that don't exceed $2,000.

Rep. Johnson, a Democrat whose district represents a swath of central and southern Dallas, awarded a total of 23 scholarships to six ineligible students between 2005 and 2006, including two grandchildren and two great nephews. The distributions violated the foundation's anti-nepotism rules...

Rep. Johnson said she was creating an independent, third-party committee to review scholarship applications. The foundation said it was reviewing procedures of its scholarship program and investigating whether there might be other cases of impropriety beyond that of Ms. Johnson.

"While I have unknowingly made a mistake

Unknowingly? child, please.

and am, too, disappointed by this ...

"i'm disappointed I got caught."

No worries, she'll be re-elected with 90% of the vote. I sure would love to see Pastor Broden win though.

She is lying? Very possible. She is claiming to simply be incredibly stupid. That’s possible too. Choose Door Number 1 or Door Number 2.

Both lead straight to hell, unfortunately.

Sounds like the City Attorney in Los Angeles who along with his wife ADMITTED to INSURANCE FRAUD AND GRAND THEFT OF AN AUTOMOBILE, then he wrote a check for the amount of the fraud, no charges filed. Rocky DelGadillo and his Wife Michelle. Maybe we should start using the Constitution via Presentments by a Grand Jury to Prosecute all these criminals.
