Richard Viguerie comments on Senator John McCains re-nomination in the Arizona Republican Primary:
The John McCain of 2009-10 was a McCain we had not seen since the mid-1990s. The Senator owes his victory to the pressure he received from conservatives and Tea Partiers.
To receive that support, he had to give up his maverick positions that have sometimes given aid and comfort to the liberals. Im sure Senator McCain knows very well that he would not have won if he had continued his reputation as the Democrats favorite Republican.
McCain ran an aggressive, hard-hitting campaign against former Congressman J. D. Hayworth. If he had taken this same kind of principled conservative and take no prisoners campaign against Barack Obama in 2008, hed now be in the second year of his presidency.
The strength of the Tea Party cause is being felt in various ways: sometimes by pressuring incumbents into retirement; other times by beating an establishment Republican in a convention or primary; or, in Senator McCains case, by applying so much heat, they see the virtue of small government, constitutional conservatism.
Conservatives and Tea Party activists look forward to welcoming Senator McCain and other lost conservatives back from their flirtations with big government.
McCain hasn’t changed. After the election he will go back to being his RINO self.
I don’t think he fooled anyone in Arizona, obviously they want a RINO as their Senator.
Some conversions stick.....some don’t. When you’re looking at the other side of 80 I don’t count on this conversion to last long. (Hell he’s not going to)
They're not saying that our litte Juan is an inconsistent RINO, are they?
IMHO...the “real” news about thta primary has to do with HOW JD always winds up the Senator’s opponent...just sayin’
McCain is likely too old to change except to change back to being a maverICK.
And he may remain in the Republican Party until the day after the general election.
My sentiments also.
Regards
\That will never happen in his lifetime. Maybe in the hereafter he will reflect on his transgressions.
A year from now the author of that statement will likely wish it had never been written.
Bingo. I don’t for a minute believe he has changed his spots.
Exactly. The only thing this proves is that the GOP is not a party of Conservatives.
Does this man know how tired we are of the word “Maverick”?
Hellsbells I bet even James Gardner hates it.
I still can't figure out why he didn't do what it would take to win. Especially when at times during the campaign he occasionally landed some telling blows and polls showed the race tightening. But he soon reverted to his avoidance of criticism of Barry's greatest vulnerabilities: his far-left history, questionable background, and associations with radicals.
I can’t believe there are people that walk among us - that are stupid enough to believe McCain has changed one iota! That one event will negate a lot of tea party victories. He, alone, cancels out the effect of many conservatives. Who will be in his “Gang of 14” now? What issues will they convene to subvert the will of true conservatives?
McCain’s win is a loss for America. Apparently, this man is too powerful to defeat. I don’t have high hopes.
Conservatives and Tea Party activists look forward to welcoming Senator McCain and other lost conservatives back from their flirtations with big government.
Maybe if the GOP takes control of the Senate then they can welcome Senator McCain back by electing him Senate Majority Leader. The transformation would then be complete....
