Three men arrested Wednesday were preparing to build improvised explosive devices for attacks within Canada, police say.
They were also raising money to fund improvised explosive device, or IED, attacks on Canadian troops in Afghanistan, RCMP chief superintendent Serge Therriault said Thursday at a news conference in Ottawa.
Two of the accused, Hiva Mohammad Alizadeh, 30, and Misbahuddin Ahmed, 26, were taken into custody in Ottawa on Wednesday. The third, 28-year-old Khurram Syed Sher, was arrested in London, Ont.
The three men arrested are accused of conspiring with at least three others identified as James Lara, Rizgar Alizadeh and Zakaria Mamosta and other persons unknown, who have been at one time or another located in Canada, Iran, Afghanistan, Dubai and Pakistan, to facilitate a terrorist activity between February 2008 and Aug. 24 of this year.
Khurram Sher was a contestant on the CTV reality program Canadian Idol.
If only someone had humored Hitler and told him his paintings were masterpieces ...
Thanks 11th_VA. Reality TV after all — assuming that the producers knowingly recruited the perp.
When they say they want to bring down the house, they mean it!
Thanks for the ping ClintonFatigued.
Just saw it on Fox News... That audition should have gotten him arrested!

“Canadian Idol”
The title of the show gives me so many unkind images. Many having to do with talents involving snow shoes, Zamboni Machines, Beer and being blowed up real good. :)
Now, now. Who started the whole “Idol” thing? Imitation is the sincerest form of affection, eh? Of course, that having been said, those shows are still festering dunghills of ignorance and commercial depravity.
There have been some real talent come from those shows. But it is mostly a freak show. The dancing Muslim should not have been there.
Definition: "Talent": A word used by lazy or envious people to describe a superlative performer as possessing some magical quality, in order to deny that it was simply a great deal of arduous work and thus justifying and concealing their own secret decision to avoid ever working that hard themselves.
Then why, when I was young, couldn't I hit a curve ball or do a slam dunk?
Now, now. Read "This is your Brain on Music: The science of a human obsession" by D.J. Levitin
They did a survey of hundreds of successful, popular music stars. They asked how many hours of practice it took to become a success with their instrument. NOT ONE stated anything less than 10,000 hours. So they called it the 10,000 hour rule, and it applies to more than music. By the way, at three hours of practice per day, that works out to 9 years.
I just started to play the mandolin. I consider myself to be "untalented". My goal is to work at it until someone says, "My, you're so talented", and then the experiment will be over.
