Jon Weiner's hospitals are a far cry from what you might be used to. There are no lengthy admissions forms to fill in. And the service you get might remind you of a five-star hotel. The cost? No more than any other hospital. The catch? They are all overseas.
Weiner co-founded the New York-based startup OR International LLC (www.orintl.com) with the goal of exporting a higher-quality American brand of healthcare throughout the world, with a primary focus on improving patient treatment.

What’s the ambulance rate?
I don’t wear a seatbelt and I drive a measley Scion xB. I explain to people that my goal is not accident survival. It is accident avoidance, which I have done quite a few times.
Same with health care. My goal is not to acquire better health care. Rather, it is to reduce my need for it.
Exercise and diet and a $10,000 deductible policy is the answer. And a willingness to let the Lord take you at his time.
Is “hospital-in-a-box” the way to better healthcare?
No.
“Democrat -in-a-Box” is................
It’s called “medical tourism” and is already a huge multi-billion dollar industry.
YEP....we just spent 5 days in Cancun for husband’s “procedure” which FDA does NOT allow in U.S. yet....Would rather have had it done here....but 5 days in the Ritz Hotel in Cancun (minus one nite in hospital unexpectedly) isn’t too bad!
No. It comes in a small platic packet and is known as the ‘blue pill.’
As with most manufacturing, Gov’t interference is driving another industry overseas.
If Obamcare is allowed to go forward we will see a lot of these hospitals being built in foreign countries. Obamacare will convert our hospitals into little better than walk in clinics with mountains of red tape denying even basic diagnostics like CT scans, cardiac caths or even extensive x-rays. Procedures we consider routine like joint replacements, sophisticated cancer care and cardiac stents will be doled out by faceless bureaucrats according to what the government thinks the patient is worth. Anyone with money will seek care outside the US and major US medical centers like the Mayo Clinic will cater to wealthy foreigners.
I kinda agree that we are seeking a million-dollar answer, and its actually more simple than.
First, you want an easy path for drugs to be approved and to be moved as quickly as possible to a generic class.
Then, you want categories of nurse-practitioners created with just a four-year degree in nursing or basic medicine. You even offer free scholarships for the first two years at community colleges to get more folks interested (via your humble state).
Then, you go to a simple deductible deal on in-patient and out-patient coverage. Out-patient ought to start at $200 per day, and in-patient around $300 a day. The hospital room? Start setting prices at $100 a day with no TV or fancy thrills and split the cost between the policy and the individual.
There are a hundred things you can do....and actually bring costs down to what real folks can afford. If you are stupid enough to do crack and drink excessively....you will get your own bill at the end of this mess.
Back in the mid-1990’s I had $5,000 deductible on my family and one day my daughter broke her arm. I took her to the local for-profit medical center and was really concerned about how much it would cost. Well, doctors have been fixing broken arms for centuries, so it isn’t rocket science.
It cost me just over $250. That was just over the difference that “full coverage” would have cost me in a single month. That experience made me a believer.
Why on EARTH do you not wear a seatbelt? As my overprotective mother used to tell me, “It’s not your driving I worry about; it’s other people’s.” She was right. You can be the best driver in the world and still be in the path of some idiot.
For me it is all about defensive driving. I bicycle commute, motorcycle and drive. I’ve been hit by cars on three separate occasions on my bicycle and on four separate occasions I’ve had cars attempt to run me off the road on my motorcycle (not on purpose). I’ve never gone down in either case though, although my bike did scratch up some cars pretty bad.
I should not say I NEVER wear my seatbelt. Rather, I often forget to put it on. If it is binding I will not wear it.
