Defense jubilant; prosecutors look to retrial(Attorney Sam Adams: Fitzgerald is nuts)
Chicago Tribune ^ | 10:15 p.m. CDT, August 17, 2010 | Stacy St. Clair and David Heinzmann

Moments after a rare setback, a chastened U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald was acting nothing like the swaggering prosecutor who just 20 months earlier proclaimed he had arrested a sitting governor to stop a political crime spree.

-snip-

Fitzgerald's reticence stood in sharp contrast to the reaction of Blagojevich's father-and-son defense team. Sam Adam and his son Sam Adam Jr. launched into a diatribe against the city's longest-serving U.S. attorney after hearing the jury's verdict, calling him "nuts" and accusing him of running a "banana republic."

In what clearly will become their mantra in the months leading up to a promised retrial, the two defense attorneys questioned the public expense of the ongoing prosecution and painted Fitzgerald as an overzealous prosecutor who betrayed Illinois voters.

-snip-

In a lengthy news conference, they accused Fitzgerald of unfairly upending the tenure of a twice-elected governor.

"This guy Fitzgerald is a master at indicting people for noncriminal behaviour," Adam Sr. said. "This guy is nuts."

Fitzgerald never impressed me. He let Clinton off. And he should have gone after Rahm and Barrack but he didn’t have the guts.

Guts? GUTS? Fitzy is a professional at providing the oligarchs with cover for their criminality. Surely you can see that by now!

Sam Adams is right on this.....saying what many of us are thinking. Wasting millions of taxpayer money on the hopes that it will make himself look good and add to his career.
I would like to see some type of law or regulation that would impose monetary penalties on runaway lawyers (pronounced Liars) who are obviously out for their own benefit at taxpayers’ expense.

Sam Adams is not only right, but his beer is good too.

According to the jurors, the prosecution did a terrible job of presenting its case.

It is so very discouraging at times seeing that professionals at every level in our country, political, corporate and otherwise have become the crooks in droves now...it's definitely every man for himself...no doubt willing to accept whatever collateral damage ensue.

Of course this has always been so to some extent...but now it is plainly in every ones face.....because they can without fearing any repercussions...there are none. Just the show to pacify public outrage.

Sometimes thinking the man on the street is a fool for continuing to pay these crooks for the monies they are stealing directly and indirectly...and we're paying them to this! We are equally insane!

It seems the only thing this guy Fitgerald is good at, is getting people convicted because they “Lied” to the FBI or a special prosecutor.

On the other hand, if it’s true that only ONE juror held out, one has to think that someone got to him or her. All the other jurors voted guilty on ALL counts, and only ONE juror said NO?

Lastly, anyone who has listened to those tapes has got to be thinking, what in the H*ll is going on here. The state of Illinois deserves more.

They guy was a bum and good riddance. They should retry him, and quickly.

Apparently not the case. Some of the counts were 11-1, others had a more even split, and the 11-1's weren't always the same person. US Attorney Fitzgerald tried a "shotgun" approach, and largely missed...

Fitzgerald seems to specialize in offering political cover for Democrat politicians. Practically sabotaged his own prosecution by springing the trap too early.

Now Fitz is considering going for a re-trial. Who does this advantage? The DNC & Obama, that’s who. They want to keep Chicago corruption limited to the Windy City.

Most entertaining television EVER! I was glued to the TV. Blago's lawyer Sam Adams Sr. takes the cake. A reporter asked him, "What about Tony Rezko?" Sam Adams, "Who's Tony Rezko?"

I disagree completely, Blago's LT Gov is running for election against a solid downstate conservative named Bill Brady, the more Blago is in the news the better it is for Republicans in this state.

Unfortunately, most of the republicans are just as bad as the democrats however Bill Brady is a different story. This will be the first conservative governor Illinois will have since I have been alive.

The former GOP govs were RINOS that would make Mitt Romney look like Jesse Helms.
