Washington (CNN) -- Defense Robert Gates is expected to leave his post in the spring of 2011, a senior administration source told CNN on Monday.

A Pentagon spokesman confirmed that Gates wants to retire some time next year. Gates was quoted in an article in the magazine Foreign Policy published Monday saying he wanted to step down before the end of 2011.

...

In addition, the senior official said, Gates does not want a potentially difficult confirmation battle for his successor to take place in the presidential election year of 2012.

Excellent — now we can a globalist/socialist hack at Defense. That will show our enemies that we’re good guys, and there’s nothing really special about the United States of America.

I remember Ron Dellums wanted the SecDef job back during the dark years of Clinton. His chance is coming again! Dellums would be a perfect fit in this regime.

I would say “why not leave sooner, jerk” but I’m worried what sort of Cindy Sheehan fan Obama might appoint in his place.

He’s had a pretty tough time. He has a very tough mission fighting two prolonged wars and modernizing the military and he hasn’t had the support or resources from Congress to do the job correctly.

Gates is the adult in the room in the Obama cabinet. I shudder to think who might take his place. Keep an eye on John effin Kerry. I’ve always thought he would go for that position once Gates retired.

I wish Secretary Gates well. He’s donr us a service by staying on as long as he has.

No-one is going to want that job in 2011, i year from a presidential election especially when Obama is on shaky ground.

Certainly no-one from the house or senate will give up their seniority.

Sorry, I have no respect for anyone who hung around this long in the Criminal-in-Chief's administration.

How many of us could work in assistance to the Islamo/Fascist in the Oval Office?

However, I could slightly revise or extend my remarks if Gates has the guts to spill the beans on some of Obama's betrayals of the military during his tenure. Or if Obama was constantly countermanding or dismissing Gate's proposals or ideas which could further the goal of victory.

However, I'm not holding my breath on Mr. Peepers Gates uttering a peep if he flies the Obamination coop.

My bet is riding on Grahamnesty. He couldn’t get elected here in SC again ... the Tea Party is “on” to him. That’s why he sucks up to Obama ... he wants Gates’ job.
