Regarding Ground Zero, Bloomberg Misses the Point
American Thinker ^ | August 14, 2010 | William Sullivan

Posted on 08/14/2010 12:25:08 PM PDT by george76

Slightly more absurd than any other political argument today is the concerted defense of a proposed mosque at Ground Zero. An Islamic entity known as the Cordoba Initiative, funded by shadowy interests, is looking to erect an ornate mosque and community center at the site of the 9/11 attack in Manhattan, and its proponents in America have deemed it an innocent act of freedom of religion and Islamic outreach while proclaiming that detractors are guilty of religious intolerance.

Most notably guilty of this fallacy is New York Mayor Bloomberg, whose sight is so dulled by political correctness that he cannot see the concern of his constituents. He is blind to the blatantly obvious truth of the political context in which this mosque will be built.

It is clear that many foreign practitioners of Islam today strictly follow its seventh-century doctrine mandating violence, martyrdom, and forced submission in a very literal sense.

Therefore, the 9/11 attacks are perceived by many Islamic fundamentalists as a victory in their struggle, or jihad, for the Islamic hegemony demanded by the Quran...

Muslims in New York do not struggle to find a site to worship, and the location near Ground Zero is certainly not the last viable piece of real estate that could be used for such purposes. But more importantly, it appears that many Muslims know that "the idea behind the Ground Zero mosque" is little more than an insult to American sensibilities, so Bloomberg's argument that opposition to the mosque is just religious intolerance holds little water.

But along with this tried-and-true approach of calling everyone who disagrees with him intolerant, Bloomberg pads his argument with diatribes about freedom of religion and moral equivalency...

The developers of the controversial mosque proposed near Ground Zero own only half the site .

Rep. Peter King, who opposes the mosque, said the developers seemed to be “operating under false pretenses.”

“I wonder what else they are hiding,” said King (R-LI). “If we can’t have the full truth on this, what can we believe?”

I wonder what would be said if the administration had sent envoys to Japan to announce that the U.S. Air Force was opening a flying school for bombing pilots in Nagasaki and Hiroshima?

The religious intolerance belongs to the Muslims insisting on a location that shows no sensitivity to the thousands who died there, their family and friends, and the sensibilities of the people of New York and the rest of the country.

How about finding someone in this world who cares what happened to our country on 9/11. Mayor Bloomberg does not; neither does our President. They each have taken sides against the people who elected them to office in connection with this matter of location of a new Mosque. There are many other possible locations.

Please, political correctness…

And call it what it really is “Political Corruption!”

Bloomberg wants to stay in good graces so he can ride first class. Until someone declares Islam to be what it is, an ideology of war, this lunacy will not abate.

GENIUS analogy.

It’s evident that Bloomberg nor Obama give a whit about the people of New York City or the families of those lost on 9/11 to radical Muslims.

They should both resign in shame, neither of them are leaders.

A friend tells of his contractor friend who said Hell will freeze over before any union builder will even set foot on the mosque site. He also mentioned something about the “Bacon Express” that will be on stand-by mode.

Does Bloomberg ever get the point? He's wrong on the 2nd Amendment and he is wrong on how he deals with guns coming into NYC. He's wrong on transfats and how he deals with that. He's wrong on tobacco and how he deals with that. He's wrong on salt and how he deals with that.

Bloomberg is un-American at every turn.

I am completely of the belief that if they want to build a mosque on their own property, then they do have the Constitutional right to do so... I've heard that there's a Church that's trying to rebuild in the area, and they've run into all sorts of zoning problems, so if the mosque goes in, then the Church should be rebuilt as well.

However, just because you CAN do something doesn't mean that you SHOULD do that thing. Muslims claim that this will be a center of interfaith tolerance: Never mind that muslims have a long history of building mosques and other "cultural centers" on the ruins of Churches, cemeteries, and religious centers of conquered lands. And the name, "Cordoba" refers to Cordoba, Spain, the center of the 9th century caliphate... So this is a monument sharing the name of the caliphate, built adjacent to the location of the most devastating attack ever on the United States.

As I said, I believe that if they own the property, then they have the right to build it there. But if they do it, they need to be reminded of the fact that their actions WILL have consequences. As the Dixie Chicks found out, just because they exercised their Constitutional rights, that doesn't mean that they were immune from pissing off their fans, i.e. their customers. And they quickly learned that pissing off their customers meant falling CD and ticket sales. They were surprised that their actions had consequences, though they shouldn't have been. The people behind the "Cordoba Center" know that what they're doing is pouring salt on an open wound, and there will be a backlash against muslims. Of course, that may be part of the plan, in order to buttress their claims of victim-hood. They claim that they want to "heal wounds," but the building of the "cultural center" adjacent to Ground Zero will be opening up new wounds, and will make a lot of people very angry. I know that if it's built and I get to NYC, I'll make a point of stopping by there and grabbing lunch to eat at their front door: Maybe a slice of peperoni and sausage pizza, or a nice smoked sausage with kraut, and a beer... I'm sure that the muslims there will be tolerant of my lunch, wouldn't they?

Mark

To make this a little more understandable, building
this mosque now would be like building a 13 story
shinto shrine next to the Arizona IN 1951 !!!

Islamic tradition is that Muslims should build a mosque at the site of great battles that they have won.

The name of the mosque in New York is Cordova, which commemorates the Islamic conquest of that city in Spain.
