Rangel: 'This ain't no funeral'

A who's who of Democratic officials turned out to celebrate scandal-scarred Rep. Charles Rangel's 80th birthday last night -- whooping it up as if he didn't have an ethics charge in the world.

In fact, former Mayor David Dinkins, 83, went so far as to flip the bird to a protester who called Rangel a "crook" outside The Plaza hotel gala.

Not everyone matched Dinkins' gusto, but the New York political establishment did turn out in force.

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Mayor Bloomberg all took turns at the mike to heap praise on the longtime Harlem legislator.

A jovial Gov. Paterson emceed the fund-raising bash and paid tribute to the embattled congressman's "dedication to public service."

Rangel lapped it up, telling the crowd, "This damn sure ain't no funeral, is it?"

Shame is out of fashion.

Why would it be? A large majority of voters in Rangel's district have 0 problems with what he's alleged to have done. He'll be re-elected in a landslide.

It might be in the city of NY, but it sure isn’t everywhere else. I think election day will stun these people

I sure hope you are right.

Shunning (for shameful activity) could go a long way toward keeping politicians/elected officials on track.

You said it brother!

David Dinkins Offers Middle Finger To Heckler

Charlie Rangel's 80th birthday dinner at the Plaza Hotel was upstaged by a former mayor's raised middle finger.

As guests made their way into the affair, a heckler shouted at David Dinkins that he was 'attending a party for a crook.'

Dinkins - responded by turning to the man and flipping the bird.

It is no surprise that David Dinkins showed someone the 'middle finger'. After all, isn't it the gesture that he gave NY City when he ruled as the city's mayor?

The democratic party, the party of corruption.

Disgusting. Truly disgusting.

The democratic party is nothing more than a bunch of opportunistic cockroaches completely devoid of honor and moral responsibility.

What a sickening display.

Exactly, Birds of a feather.

Look at who is respected in the places these people live. The local dope dealer is more respected than the guy who runs the grocery store.

The fact is the people who vote for Charlie Rangel think they are upsetting “The Man” and they are rooting for Charlie to get all he can. They are happy thinking that Charlie is getting something from Whitey. They aren’t about to vote him out. The more crooked he is the better they like him.
