In a comprehensive new study of mental health status and the use of mental health services by Californians, the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research found that nearly one in five adults in the state -- about 4.9 million people -- said they needed help for a mental or emotional health problem.
In addition, approximately one in 25, or more than 1 million, reported symptoms associated with serious psychological distress (SPD), which includes the most serious kinds of diagnosable mental health disorders

They say that Kalifornia is the Ceeral Bowl state because it’s full of fruits, nuts, and flakes.
Keep them out of the voting booth.
Take 2 aspirin, vote a straight Republican ticket, and call me in the morning.
well that explains it...
And three of the other four are lying.
Makes sense. If your mental health is one-and-a-half standard deviations below normal average, perhaps care would be helpful.
Considering CA’s representation in the House and Senate, it seems 3 of 5 CA voters are mentally ill.
Been there, but, if I had to actually try to live there, I’d need help too.
Considering Los Angeles and San Francisco, the 20% number seems pretty low
And there it is...
My thoughts exactly.
Ain’t called THE Granola state for nothin....
Bears repeating.
I’m betting that a little more hard work,
a little privation,
and a lot less navel gazing (thinking about themselves all the time)
would clear this right up.
Given the PRK’s voting tendencies, I’d say its closer to 50%.
only one in five??
Yeah, and at least 3 out of the other 4 are delusional.
Actually, the weird part here is that this close to fits the Standard Distribution (Bell Shaped) Curve. So the problem isn’t that the Californians are aware of their mental illness, it’s that the rest of America isn’t.
To explain, the SDC fits all sorts of situations. Take for example A to F school grades. If properly graded, the largest group of students, around 66% of the total in a class, should get ‘C’ grades. The other 34% are evenly divided between the 17% that are below average (D and F), and the 17% that are above average (B and A).
And of those 17% groups, 12% are ‘D’ and ‘B’ students, and 5% are ‘F’ and ‘A’ students.
(Of course schools and teachers lie so that most kids appear to be “above average”. But that is just being hypocritical.)
In any event, according to the article, “nearly one in five”, that is, less than 20% of Californians think they have “below average” mental and emotional health. Within a 3% margin of error for the SDC.
In addition, one in 25 (or 4%) of Californians, “reported symptoms associated with serious psychological distress.” Again, almost identical to the 5% of the SDC.
It sort of makes you wonder how much the rest of the country is deceiving itself, when it comes to mental illness.
How many were illegal?
