Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., will campaign for Jane Norton in Grand Junction on Sunday as her race for the U.S. Senate nears the finish line.
Norton, a Grand Junction native, was the state chairwoman for McCains 2008 presidential campaign. McCain last visited Grand Junction on Election Day 2008, speaking at Grand Junction Regional Airport.
This time, hell campaign for Norton at 2:30 p.m. on the Mesa State College campus.
McCains heft with Mesa County voters is significant, Norton campaign spokeswoman Cinamon Watson said, noting that he was the highest Republican vote getter in Mesa County in the past three presidential cycles.
Norton, a former lieutenant governor, is battling with Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck for the Republican nomination.
Buck on Monday took a swipe at McCain, saying the onetime presidential candidate was greasing the power brokers to pay for attacks on him. In a statement, Buck asked Republicans instead to send him money for eight more days of television ads.

What can be said about voters who give McCain “heft”?
McCain: Helping democrats win national elections everywhere! Thanks Juan.
I turned off Imas this morning when McCain came on...whoever is voting for him should be honest with themselves and change parties
I go to all of the Grand Junction Republican Party events; and I don't know anyone who can stand McCain. Why is she doing this?
“Buck on Monday took a swipe at McCain, saying the onetime presidential candidate was greasing the power brokers to pay for attacks on him “
McCain has done the same against Hayworth. He would get their family members jobs if need be.
"Palin told the 500 or so attendees, gathered at the Ronald Reagan Building, that this years lineup of Senate candidates included a number who fit the bill: former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, running in California; former state GOP Chairman Sue Lowden in Nevada, and former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton in Colorado."
Palin is supporting the McCainiac Norton now?
Figures.
Nothing formal. Yet.
Palin never formally endorsed Norton. This statement was just acknowledging the women running for office.
Domino effect.
RINO after RINO
No, she's not. She is staying out of this race.
Will he have McPalin in tow?
True. Palin only touted Norton at the Susan B. Anthony List breakfast. Since the Anthony List had already endorsed Norton, Palin may have simply been pandering to the audience.
Norton is by no means a RINO. That canard has been disproven time and time again.
Uh huh. Look out Washington, Pink Elephant conservative women like Jane Norton are coming... Probably just another slip of the tongue.
Nothing to see here, just move along...
But she was the chair of McCain's campaign in Colorado in the 2008 elections.
I fail to see how one could possibly be a conservative and a McCainiac cheerleader at the same time.
Really? Why does Norton support Murkowski?
In an interview with the Colorado Statesman posted Wednesday, Norton said she would choose Murkowski as her Senate mentor. She has an incredible depth of understanding of the importance of the energy issues Shes been, I think, a terrific spokesperson for her state.
