For those who are unfamiliar with the plane.
That is terrible news, and there is supposed to be an air show this weekend.
Last crash some years ago was due to geese being ingested, I am north of Anchorage and these C17’s routinely fly over my house, they are weird sounding, quieter than the C130’s.
Prayers up.
Prayers up for the crew.
My daughter/nurse is stationed at Elmendorf. Survivors...and I pray there are survivors...are in good hands.
Prayers going up...
Prayers
I was stationed at Elmendorf in the mid 80’s working passenger service. I remember we’d keep our fingers crossed every time a C5 took off due to the mountains.
Lord let it not be a troop transport.
Prayers up.

Update
JB Elmendorf-Richardson Commander just gave a news conference.
For 10 mins he carfully said exactly nothing.
Maybe tomorrow. I do find it hard to believe that after 4 hours, they would not even confirm status of aircrew.
Oh well - it is the new PC Air Force
Another airshow "practice" crash.
Flying an aircraft, outside of normal operation parameters, isn't child's play.
Lots of comparison to the Fairchild B-52 crash will be made, but we don't know what happened here. That B-52 crash is still studied in military schools, and as part of aircrew Cockpit Resource Management (CRM). The truth is that that pilot (Lt Col "Bud" Holland) was an out of control, reckless psychopath.
I bet all military airshows are put on indefinite hold - either that or they just make them boring "static displays", which don't really 'wow' the public.
Great video showing the 17’s capabilities... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFkdJjtmeEA
