The EMR we use at work calculates BMI; I would think that they all do. The problem I have with this is that they will be required to be available NATIONALLY.

Right! And instead of 17-year old kids trying to convince somebody to buy them a six-pack, we’ll see fatties hanging outside of supermarkets trying to convince some 17-year old to buy them a quart of ice cream. How the worm will have turned. But it will afford a great business opportunity for skinny unemployed teens to start personal shopping services.

None of these laws can be undone. 2/3 majority and a non-RINO President will have to be in power. Will NEVER happen.

A new Congress can defund the law and the agencies designed to implement it.

You’re right. I’ve heard all of these (except maybe the ‘crackers’ comment).

If they have your height and weight this just a computer calculation. No permission would be required to accomplish this.

body mass index is worthless -especially if you workout and have a good amount of muscle on you.

This is going to screw over alot of people who actually are quite fit.

“I would be surprised if Michele’s BMI fell within accepted guidelines.”

I’m going to guess her BMI would not fit within the “recommended” level - but I’m sure they would just change it for her.

First of all - she works out and appears to be somewhat muscular.

Second of all - she has a natural “asset” that is working against her.

I’m going to start asking them “where are the people who were so outraged by the Patriot Act?”

Sure! What about Rosie O’Donuts? Oprah? Hillary?

Just not enough time to find all of them :-)

I see this being challenged in court by all sides. As pointed out, the BMI alone is worthless. The only way to tell if someone is “obese” without seeing them is by combining BMI with body fat measurement testing. Typically this is done by careful tape measuring, calipers or electrical impedance measuring.

Quite simply, the scenario goes like this: “Thanks, but no thanks, you are not going to measure me - period”. They can sit there with a stunned look on their face all they want.

Now the ball is back in their court - what will they do then? Nothing, that’s what.

I see this BMI reporting REQUIREMENT being rather easily challenged and being defeated in court. As pointed out, even a lot of Liberals, Libertarians, Independents, fat Socialists etc are not going to stand for this more than likely.

Question Leftist authority. Push back against government control.

The problem is you won’t see these stories on the alphabet news channels. So no backlash.

I’ve posted a thread http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2553687/posts requesting a Socialized Medicine Forum topic so we can put all this stuff under 1 topic to make it easier to find and use. Please chime in.

Oh, you are preaching to the choir. There is not one thing I like about Obamacare or the way it was passed. What I want to see is a much stronger push on the part of GOP leaders to repeal it. Right now the GOP is doing the usual; hand wringing and vague promises, sans any real charge—with teeth in it—to get the job done. They should be pulling a Churchill, and saying they’ll fight them now; they’ll fight them in 2011; they’ll fight them in 2012; they’ll fight as long and hard as it takes, but this thing WILL be repealed.

I know, I know; hailstorm in hell, right.

No kidding. It just gets worse each day. I don’t think we can count on the GOP to undo this mess.

Problem is they are doing things behind our backs every day.

Most of these awful giant power grab bills relegate the job of producing policy to czars after the bills are passed.

I guess the Constitution has been sent to the dust bin.

The sad part is that the spinless wastes of life that make up 99% of the GOP won’t undo anything, or even try, if they get back in power.

The minute anyone like Sarah, Bachmann, Brewer, speak out, they get cast aside and undermined by the so called “men” in the GOP.

“With the government healthcare the government must ...judge on behalf of the taxpayer. The government becomes godlike.”

Yep, democracy always leads to socialism, socialism always leads to fascism. That is the brilliance of being a representative republic that is supposed to protect individual liberty and freedom.
