Circa 1955 A house trailer was set up on US27 North out of Miami about
8 miles. It was a police station with a built in jail. It was the beginning of the city of HIALEAH GARDENS!
Everyone knew what it was including a friend of mine coming in from Basic at Lackland AFB, I had warned him. Needless to say he got stopped and I had to bail him out. That area of US 27 was a two lane highway with sawgrass on either side and no houses for miles. Certain towns like Hialeah Gardens, Ludowici,Ga. and this one in AZ. are money machines.
The Miami Herald had run an expose on it but it took along time for the state to move.
