Should the RNC fire Michael Steele and hire Sarah Palin? The latest round of debate got kicked off Saturday by Kevin Williamson over at National Review. Palin, he points out, would "raise tons of money and help recruit good candidates," while not having "to get herself entangled in the minutiae of policy-development, which has not been her forte." While she's polarizing, "so is Barack Obama," he says, and having a polarizing person for chairman might be better than having one as a candidate. Reaction on the right is mixed.
Stop Trying to Keep Palin Out of 2012 Conservative blogger Gary Jackson, a contributor to "The Sarah Palin Web Brigade," thinks Williamson is being condescending and is just "looking for any way possible to get Sarah Palin out of the running." He suggests Williamson and others want to pave the way for their own favored candidates, whom he calls "show ponies."
I'm Not, responds Williamson. "Writing that policy detail is not Palin's forte is not the same as writing that Palin is unintelligent," and in any case he does "not think that she is going to run for president in 2012." Irritated at some of Jackson's stronger remarks, he writes: "Palin is often accused of being poorly informed and overly defensive. I do not think that is true of her, but it certainly seems to be true of her loyalists."

Ixnay on a minor job.
She is better doing what she is doing and should absolutely run for President.
Besides, we need a hottie for a leader.
Williamson should spend a little more time listening and reading what Palin has been saying and writing - most especially the recent facebook post on Obama’s enemy-centric foreign policy.
Then again, our friends at NR can be a bit snooty at times, can’t they?
To suggest that Sarah Palin should lead a group that embodies all that is wrong with the Republican Party is to miss the entire premise of her presence on the political stage. She means to sweep the good old boys away, not to lead them.
By the time the 2012 election rolls around I think she will be an unstoppable force headed straight for 1600 Penn. Ave.
She has no interest in running it.
the left would love it if she was tied up come 2012.
Sarah is OUR ‘Iron Lady’
lets not sweep her under the rug.
we need a new label than “iron lady”
Artic Lady
Lady of the North
Mistress from the Tundras
It is ridiculous that many GOP Bashers here and elsewhere find some endorsement that Palin made to try to convince us that Palin is no good . These "conservatives" demonize Palin for a single endorsement(that of McCain) out of millions of conservative actions Palin has taken. That is ridiculous. And that they take over a forum like this with that argument is even more ridiculous. Hey, you Palin Bashers, you GOP bashing "conservatives" you might think you are conservatives or you are democrats/marxists posing as conservatives : but in either case you liberals/democrats/marxists drop your big government agenda and get a clue about economics by reading my profie. It's kinda hard to get a job or eat without the good economy that only Free Market Capitalism provides.
I am for the governor of Arizo, Christie and Palin and I am for dismantling the thousands of government agencies that cripple our FREE MARKET CAPITALISM.
My plan:
As President I would:
1. ON day 1 I would order the military to deport all illegals deep into Mexico so that it would cause them great economic cost to get back. I would order the military to the border, patriot missiles, tanks, and nuclear missiles to the border with Mexico so that Mexico won't object to the deportation.
2. On day 2 , I order all heads of government agencies like the EPA, FCC, dept of interior, etc. to lay off of the free market. Later the plan is to dismantle all of these thousands of government agencies.
3. Explain economics to the American people and how government/socialism doesn't work( see my about page for why capitalism is 1000 times more efficient than government). This will facilitate reducing government, crippling government laws and regulations and instituting a flat tax of 12% in place of all other taxes. No taxes on business , no regulations on business.
4. Only functions of government are military, border control, international issues like trade and what comes into the country be it people or products etc., courts ,police, protecting the country from invaders, protecting individual rights like the right to life (including of the fetus), the right to free speech, the right to liberty, the right to be left alone, the right to bear arms etc.. Free market capitalism can produce anything people may need.
5. Ban unions.
6.Abolish the EPA, FCC, FEC, dept of education, government schools, the hundreds of taxes, the thousands of 2000 page laws that mandate government growth, the thousands of crippling government laws and regulations and agencies like the banking regulations and regulators now killing our economy .
7. Dismantle the welfare state. You don't work you don't eat, period no exceptions.
8. Dismantle social security ,medicare and every other useless government program and agency even NASA who is now doing global warming studies, Muslim outreach, gay outreach and other madness with billions of our tax dollars when they should be trying to blow up more people in space shuttles or going to Mars to get rocks like that is needed. many more
9... 100 but I have to go now to work to pay the government criminals who will in turn give my money they take from me at the point of a gun to those who won't work , those on welfare.
Hopefully Palin or Christie can do all this and more. If not by God someone should do it. Tancredo would. I would and I'm running too.
As I understand it, the job is defined as raising funds, electing worthy candidates and rallying the base.
I can’t think of anyone better suited for — or who has demonstrated greater competence and energy for — the job. The question is rather, “Is the job suited to her?”
Let Steele alone, he'll keep sticking his foot in his mouth, and it'll give some other pubbie a reason to bash him.
I only donate directly to candidates, not the party, so whether it's Steele or Sarah, they'll still not get a dime of my money.
I’m all for it. Sarah would receive a huge bounce for leading the GOP recovery of the house (and maybe the senate in November.) Come January, she could tern her sights on other endeavors...
This is a stupid idea, and no doubt started by the democrats who would like nothing more than to have Palin in charge of the RNC. She’s doing just fine where she’s at now.
Steele, is the man. Let him run his term. REpublicans are great at screwing things up....
The head of the party apparatus is supposed to be a political strategist and idea man, someone famous and popular enough where people will pay to hear him speak, a prolific fundraiser, smart and articulate enough to debate the other side on TV and win every time, but who himself probably wouldn’t win an election.
I nominate Newt Gingrich.
My memory is not that great so please (without googling it) tell me the name of the head of the RNC that “got” Reagan elected.
You remember him? The cowboy that every smart commentator said was incapable of being president?
Yes sir, if it had not been for the RNC that crazy cowboy never would have made it to DC.
I am sure the man that got Ike in as president will never be forgotten for his great work....good old whatsizname, we will never forget him.
Taking the job will not do one thing for Sarah Palin.
Spending her time eating rubber chicken and stumping for every RINO running? It wouldn't help at all.
Good Witch of the North
I’m against this idea Heather, but I think it would be great if Joe Biden was head of the DNC after his retirement in 2012.
we need a new label than iron lady
Americas Margaret Thatcher.
No - absolutely not.
1) She is already the de facto Conservative power broker. A specific title for her would only serve to give the MSM a target. Right now the MSM is pulling their hair out over her because they can’t label her, only libel her.
2) The “Republican” brand is a loser and accordingly must die. Conservatives may need to call themselves “Republican” in the short run in order to get elected. However, we must flush out the RINO’s. This process is already in place, and we must see it through to its inevitable conclusion.
