Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc. Announces New Term Floater Commitment (rig moves to Egypt)
Business Wire ^ | July 9, 2010

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc. (NYSE:DO) today announced that a subsidiary of the Company has entered into a term contract ending June 30, 2011, plus option, with Burullus Gas Company S.A.E. that will immediately mobilize the Ocean Endeavor from the Gulf Of Mexico (GOM) to Egypt.

Diamond Offshore President and CEO, Larry Dickerson, noted, “With new contracting severely restricted in the GOM as a result of the uncertainties surrounding the offshore drilling moratorium, we are actively seeking international opportunities to keep our rigs fully employed. This new contract for the Endeavor will help us preserve backlog, and will allow the previous operator of the rig to satisfy its contractual obligations which extended until June 30, 2011. We greatly regret the loss of U.S. jobs that will result from this rig relocation.”

Offshore rigs are already leaving the US, along with hope for greater energy independence and a change (increase) in domestic oil production. The administration should end this senseless drilling moratorium immediately before we lose more offshore rigs, more jobs, and more domestic oil production.

Guess you haven’t been keeping up with the news.

N.O. Federal judge blocked the moratorium and the appeals court upheld it yesterday.

Looks to me as if damage has already been done though.

Lets move the leftist politicians overseas; instead of oil drilling rigs.

Yeah, but isn’t the Interior Department about to issue a new moratorium? I also read that arguments in the lawsuit start next month. So as far as I know, there’s major uncertainty about when this deepwater drilling ban will be lifted.

Once all the available rigs go overseas, the ban will be irrelevant. That is the point.

These companies can't put multi-million to billion dollar committment out there at the whim of a child in the White House.

And many others will go to Brazil, drilling for Petrobras (where our friend George Soros is heavily invested), in waters that are far deeper than the ones that the occupier of the White House is banning for US companies.

Not to mention the US Taxpayers. Obamalamadingdong gave Brazil billions in loan guarantees to develop their offshore oil resources. Meanwhile, although twice denied by Federal Judges, Obama and his minions continue to try to enforce an offshore drilling moratorium in the Gulf of Mexico. Where are the investigative reporters? There's a Pulitzer Prize waiting for someone with the stones to write it up.....

Bs, that is like saying when the last ford comes off the assembly line, I don't think we have lost the know how to build more rigs and I would bet there are thousands in the construction process. Anyway, the odds of obamma prevailing in this case are slim and none.

If you are comparing building a Ford automobile to a billion dollar drilling rig, I’ll step back and let you have that one. There are a finite number of drilling rigs on this planet, and they can’t be built in a matter of months.

Never heard of an Assembly line, you know interchangeable parts and etc, The great part of this country if there is a demand someone will be rushing to fill the order.

I heard on the radio that the next hearing is scheduled for sometime in August. That’s 4 weeks at best.

I’m guessing you’ve never actually been on a drilling rig. I have. “Nuff said.
