40,000 Illinois State Workers To Get 14% Payraises

Springfield, Ill. - More than 40,000 unionized state workers got a pay raise last Thursday, bringing to 7 percent the amount they're gotten since last year. These same state employees are in line for another 7 percent by next July 1, all at a cost of a half-billion tax dollars a year.

It's more than the virtually bankrupt state can afford, and some Republican lawmakers say the raises need to be rolled back.

Remember this when, over the course of the next two years, these Democrat-run hellholes come to the federal government (that is, YOU the TAXPAYER) to bail out these public-sector workers and unions.

Of course, Illinois is also begging for Federal bailouts. They think the whole country deserves the privilege of supporting their State workers in lavish wages and benefits.

Last year my company cut salaries by as much as 30% for some people. We're getting no raises this year. That's the real world - no raises or salary cuts.

Elections will NOT fix this nation at this point. May be unpopula to say it, but when you have an admin who pushes everything which is opposed by 60% of the people, and you get cities doing things like this, someone please tell me why we split off from Britain?

My husband is a NERES (non-union represented) state employee up here in MI. I can’t remember the last time he had a raise; last year his pay was reduced by 10% all summer and our idiotic governor and legislature raised the income tax. It’s not a complaint, since so many people have lost their jobs we feel blessed.

The unionized state employees got their raise. The aforementioned idiots wouldn’t muster the backbone to vote to rescind it.

But 14%????? That’s insane. Suicidal. Deranged!

From Link : “Springfield, Ill. - More than 40,000 unionized state workers got a pay raise last Thursday, bringing to 7 percent the amount they're gotten since last year. These same state employees are in line for another 7 percent by next July 1, all at a cost of a half-billion tax dollars a year...”I'm outraged,” said State Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno. “It's very difficult to buy this rhetoric that, ‘We need to borrow, we need increased revenue,’ when these kind of poor management decisions are going on.”...The union argues that the state needs to raise taxes. AFSCME’s chief negotiator in Illinois, Union International Vice President Henry L. Bayer, responded to Radogno....”I'm outraged Sen. Radogno and her fellow Republicans have done nothing to help solve the state's financial problem,” Bayer said. “ Where would she cut $9 billion? It can't be done with just cuts. We need more revenue.” Bayer and other union leaders strongly support tax increases....The contractual raises are now legally locked in. Any roll back could come only with the union's agreement...A threat of massive layoffs would be the most likely source of leverage for any future state official wanting to re-open the union contract” At : 40,000 Illinois (unionized ) State Workers To Get 14% Payraises

Classic model of the public servants becoming the taxpayers masters. If you saw Michael Moore's movie Sicko he tells the audience that they need to demand more ‘free’ public services, that us demanding government services is the purpose of us having a vote. Unfortunately too many, minorities even more-so than whites, believe this Moore line of flawed rational. But the endgame is always government employee unions holding the taxpayers hostage to massive cuts in those services that we were told were a right.

If they are a 'right' then cut the government employee's pay. Get rid of those unions.

If elections won’t fix it the people themselves are broken. And the optimist in me says the majority are not.

"at a cost of half a billion dollars." Hmmm!

OK, let them keep their raise. But, sort the unionized work force in decending order by salary then start laying them off until you've reached half a billion dollars. Then add a few more as a fudge factor.

Works for me!
