I have a solution for the Asian Carp but no one seems to want to listen.

Place a bounty on the carp. That would stimulate the economy and put tens of thousands of fishermen to work.

Hey, I bet you could turn around and sell the carp to trendy uptown sushi bars and actually make a profit on the deal.

Nobody wants to eat carp or that same industry would have sprung up all up and down the mississippi. People come here to fish for game fish, not carp.

We once had the worlds largest freshwater commercial fishing industry but the sea lamprey eliminated that with the help of various greentards and assorted leftist nutjobs.

I agree. Bounty. I’ve suggested it before, and other Freepers have agreed, and I’ve agreed with them when I’ve seen their posts.

And a bounty would stimulate fishing sales: everything from bait to poles to licenses.

The problem will be the yahoos who then try to raise it in their back yard to sell the offspring. How would you control that?

Placing a bounty on the pike won’t do it. They’re waaaay too prolific and those waterways are waaaay too deep. I don’t even think blasting with dynamite would do it.

Those waterways need to be shut down, or the Great Lakes fishing industry could well go under. And no one wants to ride a boat with those things around, either.

Take a look. If you want to fastforward a bit, go to the 2:00 mark or so:

Exactly. A bounty would put an end to them.

Or maybe have a “fish lottery” for some large amount of money. Every carp turned in is a ticket for the lottery. This might be cheaper, while providing an even higher motivation.

It’s the sort of idea that you wish were a good idea, until thousands of Chicagoans are breeding Asian carp for the bounties.
