Readers may recall Ann Coulter's visit to the University of Ottawa a couple of months back. The Provost, François Houle, had threatened her with criminal prosecution before she'd even set foot on Canadian soil, whereupon a mob of Houligans forced the cancellation of her speech. The Canadian Press filed a freedom-of-information request and has discovered that M Houle's fatuous letter was sent at the behest of the University's President, Alan Rock, a former Minister of Justice under the Liberals:
"Ann Coulter is a mean-spirited, small-minded, foul-mouthed poltroon," Rock wrote to Houle in a March 18 email. "She is 'the loud mouth that bespeaks the vacant mind'."
On the subject of vacant minds, how embarrassing that the president of a leading (okay, "leading") university doesn't know the meaning of the word "poltroon". Webster's? "Spiritless coward." The OED? "Spiritless coward."
Say what you like about Ann Coulter but she's no coward and she doesn't want for spirit. "Poltroon" would seem to apply more to the shifty and dissembling Alan Rock. If he dislikes that characterization, I'd be happy to sponsor a debate between him and Miss Coulter in Ottawa, if not at his dingy campus then at the Chateau Laurier, and we'll see who emerges most poltroon-like.
Presumably, Rock thought its meaning approximate to that of its rhyme, "buffoon". As Bugs Bunny is wont to observe, "What a maroon!"

None of these people can read. I was taught that you NEVER EVER use a word you cannot define.
I quit reading the local newspaper (and most others, too) or watching the TV news because NONE of these ‘journalists’ appear to have the least idea what they are saying. I think they just read whatever is shoved under their noses or just write what they ‘heard about’ elsewhere without actually researching the information or the story.
NOT one of them has probably EVER picked up a dictionary or read a single classic, cover-to-cover. (Believe me, you will become educated in spite of yourself if you read even ONE book which is regarded as a classic-AND, it is addictive) Reading classic literature is just one of those dirty habits I picked up in school… way back when school WAS school.
I have come to the conclusion that there are only two kinds of people in the world….people who read and people who don’t!!

Do not Mr. Rock’s words qualify as “hate speech” today in the People’s Republic of Canuckistan? I had been under the impression that they were always standing on guard for the chance to punish such expressions as directed against a presumptive victim class, such as Women.

How true. The libs always say he got his job because of his father but there is the fallacy: Many well connected men were able to get to UPT but once there you actually had to perform like the rest of the students or wash out.

“I wear their insults as a badge of honor.” Ann Coulter in “How to Talk to Liberals (If you really have to )” That book is particularly revealing, for it shows her whole strategy—say what outrages them while pointing out the inconsistency of their position. For example, she once asked a liberal, “Would you support the abortion of only homosexual babies?” Two sacraments in opposition—abortion and homosexuality. To quote Ann again, “If you don’t leave a liberal spluttering, you’ve really not insulting enough.”
It’s a mark of their lack of intelligence that she published her strategy and liberals still fall for it. Proverbs says, “In vain is a trap set in the sight of any bird”—yet liberals fall for the same trap again and again.
