Iran is advancing a program for enhanced security cooperation with Turkey. "Our relations are excellent," Iranian Interior Minister Mustafa Najar said.

On June 19, Najar said Iran and Turkey were preparing for their annual security cooperation session. The interior minister said the two countries would discuss counter-insurgency as well as efforts against drug traffickers and organized crime.

In a meeting with Turkey's ambassador to Iran, Umit Yardim, Najar said the groundwork has been prepared for a significant expansion of cooperation between Ankara and Teheran. He cited the need for additional CI and anti-crime measures in an effort to improve border security.

Officials said Iran and Turkey have significantly improved border security cooperation in 2010. They said Iran has been working with Turkey to combat the PKK and its regional network, which operates from Iran, Iraq and Syria.

Over the last month, the PKK has killed scores of Turkish soldiers and security officers in southeastern Turkey. The Turkish military has responded with the largest operations inside Iraq in more than a year.

For his part, Najar said Ankara and Teheran have also moved closer regarding their vision of the region. The minister cited Turkey's sponsorship of a flotilla sent to break the Egyptian and Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip.

Officials said the Teheran regime has been discussing with Ankara measures to enhance security cooperation amid the offensive by the Kurdish Workers Party, or PKK.

They said the cooperation was meant to focus on their long mutual border.

Turkey would have been thrown out of NATO long ago but there is a lobby in Washington and in NATO keeping Ankara in the Alliance. The people in Washington see Turkey’s role as a regional energy supplier and encouraged Ankara as it undertakes difficult political reforms and works to resolve regional diplomatic conflicts.

I understand that Turkey is an EU energy supplier.

I fail to understand why it is the United States job to protect Europe, Japan, South Korea, Etc, etc, etc.

And Turkey has decided to forego the west and realign within the moosie circle.
