I’m no fisherman. Why is it important to keep this fish out of Lake Michigan?

It is dis-placing many native species.

Why is it important to keep this fish out of Lake Michigan?

Because it's a rapidly breeding invasive species which isn't native to the US, let alone the Great Lakes. It's a voracious eater which strips the food chain so that native species starve out.

It's a real problem and one we don't have a handle on.

However the last thing we need is another 'czar' to deal with it. Illinois DNR could take care of it if they didn't have to deal with multiple layers of Federal bureaucrats.

The Asian carp have ravenous appetites, have no natural predators, and have high reproduction rates. (probably due to the ravenous appetites, but I digress)

Their habits will destroy the Great Lakes ecosystem because other creatures will starve.

That's sort of it in a nutshell.
