Because it's a rapidly breeding invasive species which isn't native to the US, let alone the Great Lakes. It's a voracious eater which strips the food chain so that native species starve out.
It's a real problem and one we don't have a handle on.
However the last thing we need is another 'czar' to deal with it. Illinois DNR could take care of it if they didn't have to deal with multiple layers of Federal bureaucrats.
Florida is full of invasive species due to laws allowing irresponsible people to bring exotic animals into the country. These invaders are destroying the delicate ecosystem. Pythons, boa constrictors, monitor lizards, iguanas, walking catfish just to name a few. It is likely only a matter of time before we’ll be facing and exploding population of cobras and other deadly snakes.
