Obama Courts Latinos by Suing Arizona
Townhall.com ^ | June 26, 2010 | Dick Morris and Eileen McGann

Posted on 06/26/2010 5:18:02 AM PDT by Kaslin

Why is President Obama suing to invalidate the Arizona law on illegal immigration? Why is he incurring the enmity of even his own Democratic congressmen from the Phoenix and Tucson areas by trying to kill a law that two-thirds of Arizona and a similar proportion of America as a whole supports?

The answer: It is a desperate, last-ditch attempt to rebuild his sagging popularity with America's Hispanic voters.

Furious at Obama for failing to keep his election-year promise to promote comprehensive immigration reform when he had a super-majority at his disposal, they are deserting the president and his party in droves. Unemployment, a sagging economy and their sharp disagreement with Obama over social issues don't help the president's cause any.

So Obama has seized on the Arizona immigration law as a symbolic target, hoping to accomplish in a lawsuit the political task of rebuilding his base.

Remember that in 2008, Obama won precisely the same share of the white vote that Sen. John Kerry won in 2004. There was a shift among whites, as the Obama won more young whites and lost more older ones, but the white vote ratios as a whole remained constant. His entire margin of victory was based on two factors:

a) The African-American vote rose from 11 percent of the total in 2004 to 14% in 2008 and virtually all voted for Obama; and

b) Latinos, who had backed Kerry by only 10 points, supported Obama by 50 points.

For Obama to have a shot at keeping Democrats in control of Congress, he must replicate the enthusiasm of 2008 among minorities. But his Hispanic flank is definitely weakened. Hence the lawsuit to shore it up.

The answer on immigration reform is to adopt a three-part program to dry up the jobs that attract illegal migrants in the first place. When there are no jobs, they will not come -- and those who are here will go back home without deportations or roundups.

We need to:

-- Strengthen penalties and enforcement of laws barring people and companies from hiring illegal immigrants. Those who do so should face prison time.

-- We need a foolproof national biometric ID card so employers can tell who is legal and who is not.

-- We should implement a broad guest-worker program to bring upscale and manual workers into the U.S. to fill our labor-force needs. They must get at least the minimum wage and have health benefits. But, when the job is over, they must go home.

Democrats won't embrace this program because the unions won't let them and because they want illegals to stay here and become Democratic voters. Republican agri-businesses won't go for it because they want to exploit illegal workers with low pay and bad work conditions.

But this is the solution. Trying to seal the border is good rhetoric but is a hopeless task. Drying up the jobs that bring illegal immigrants here is something we can and must do.

No we don't.

Why punish honest Americans?

Make identity thef a felony, with severe penalties.

Have a simple question on job application, are you a US Citizen or if not are you in this country legally? Make it a felony to lie (as when you fill out your tax forms, or being questioned by a federal law enforcement officer).

There already exist a way to verify Social Security numbers.

Protect employers from being sued if they do not hire someone because their status is in question.

Make it a felony to hire illegals (all the way down to the guys that clean the pool, mow the lawn).

The list can go on. The point is to make America a hostile enviroment for those that cross our borders illegally.

Remove the financial incentive and the problem will correctg it self.

Wait until these folks (provided they get amnesty and citizenship) learn that they are on the hook for the Obama debt.

I’d hate to be standing in the way of the USA and Arizona...heading south!

We already bring in 125,000 legal foreign workers a month on non-immigrant work and immigrant visas. We have 25 million Americans looking for full time jobs. We don't need unskilled workers. Guest worker programs don't work. We need to change from a kinship system of immigration to a merit based system. That will give us the skilled workers we need and eliminate such programs as H-1B.

So let’s see, criminals who have a penchant for leftist political structures, who already vote for Dims overwhelmingly on one side

vs.

a massive trend to the right by Americans and a majority of Americans who favor sealing the border and clamping down on illegal immigration on the other.

Yeah, this move is going to win him a lot more votes in 2012.

Exactly.

The National ID card argument is the same illogical approach the anti-2nd Amendment tyrants use.

“Criminals are using guns, therefore let’s first make it very difficult and very expensive for law-abiding citizens to obtain firearms. If that doesn’t work [which it won’t, because criminals obtain their firearms illegally, just like illegal aliens obtain their work illegally] then we’ll have to consider an outright ban.”

President For Life Barrak Milhouse Odumbo does not need to sue Arizona, just TALK it up and then, IN OCTOBER, just prior to the mid term elections, sign an executive order to grant AMNESTY to the aliens. The media will have talked up the point that DEMOCRATS were as “angry” with Arizona because the REPUBLICANS “hate” latinos.

Remember, that the ignorant live by emotion, not thought or logic.

0bama and his thugs are planning Blanket Amnesty by Executive Order.

Read about it here.

This will add about 30 million new DemoncRAT voters.

Say goodbye to your freedoms.

The DemoncRATs will dominate at least the FedGov for the foreseeable future.

Dick Morris is wrong on this one...he’s an open border hack as well, but just trying to suck our toes to appear more conservative.

We have dozens of ‘guest worker programs’, allowing in millions every year...many of whom simply overstay and never leave...btw, many green card legal ‘workers’ are growing dope for the cartels on our public lands.

Good luck with that. It’s been tried before.

Besides, you won’t have the vote, and you’ll have to fight all the Mexican gangs and drug cartels that have full auto weapons, grenade launchers, mines, and other nice toys.

And it would give the UN the very excuse they’ve been looking for to send in “peacekeepers” from places like Russia, China, Turkey, Bosnia, Iran, Somalia, and other places that have a score to settle with us.

With a treasonous, treacherous, illegal alien like 0bama as president, he will welcome such hateful troops with open arms.

It would be a blood bath.

Count on it.

If we can’t do this peacefully, and states attempt secession, then the US will be totally ripped apart and destroyed by civil war and occupying “peacekeepers” from the UN.

By that time we will have degenerated into anarchy where gangs rules. If there is one thing Latinos are proven to excel at, it's gang violence. Eveyone else will be on the hook.
