DALLAS — Fired-up Republican activists in no mood for compromises threw out their party chairwoman Saturday, then bucked Texas Gov. Rick Perry by pushing for a crackdown on illegal immigration similar to Arizona's new law.
Some delegates at the Republican state convention also called for a nonbinding resolution calling on House Republicans to oust their own speaker, Rep. Joe Straus of San Antonio, considered too moderate for many of the bedrock conservatives meeting in Dallas this weekend. Convention organizers ruled the Straus resolution out of order.
While the convention began Friday with scripted unity and Democrat-bashing speeches, its final hours were marked by division and heated debates over GOP policy priorities.
In a sometimes chaotic and raucous roll-call vote, delegates overwhelmingly decided to ditch their firebrand leader, conservative activist Cathie Adams, in favor of Houston businessman Steve Munisteri. Munisteri had focused his campaign on the party's $500,000 debt, saying Republicans should be in better financial shape since they control both houses of the Legislature and all statewide offices.
The immigration proposal, a hard-line approach that Perry has said isn't right for Texas, was one of several initiatives debated as delegates wrapped up the two-day convention. The Republican Party platform is a blueprint of the policies that GOP activists want elected officials to pursue.

From the standpoint of what party is supposed to do: recruit and support candidates, etc.; Munisteri is better suited to that role than Adams. imho

Good. One way to keep control of the legislature, elected offices, and the governors mansion should be to promote and enact conservative policies, regardless.
Too often, it seems, all the Republicans get together and go for a moderate tone, since it is what the top dog wants. The name of the game is keeping the rats and their socialist allies out of office.
Sounds good to me. There’s a lot of work for Texas to do in the coming session. A lot.
Perry is a pretty boy liberal. We want these damned illegals OUT OF HERE. I will not vote for Perry !!!! The party is united to SHUT DOWN OUR BORDERS NOW!! No delay and no mercy. !! Right now. THE ARIZONA LAW IS RIGHT FOR TEXAS!!!NOW!!

Agree. Seems the chaos that was the convention is reflected in the manner the article was written.
I gather the RINO’s won by what I think I read. Seems they’re more interested in adding numbers to the party, thus getting the $bucks$ rather than the platform together.
I believe that is what I see all too many of the Republican committee’s around the country doing anymore. More interested in building their BIG TENT, and having the money flow than addressing the issues.

No joke. We were in Texas Roadhouse tonight, sitting near the bar. The t.vs were on and slowly we started noticing the shows on. It was all Mexican sports, news, commercials, etc. There were 2 Mexicans sitting at the bar, but they weren’t watching them. Just curious, tvs turned on mexican stations, casually, and seemingly part of the norm. It just seemed odd. We were at Texas Roadhouse, NOT Monterey House.

Governor Goodhair slides back and forth between staunch conservative and liberal with ease. Depends on who’s around to listen.
The Governor needs to get on board or go back to his ranch and live out his days.
In 1984, Perry was elected to the Texas House of Representatives as a Democrat from a district (64) that included his home county of Haskell. He served as Gore’s Texas campaign chairman in 1988. In 1989 he joined the Republican Party.
Sounds like Arlen Specter, only the Texas version.
Governor Goodhair is out for himself and will do as he pleases not what the citizens want.

What a RINO. As if all the freaking illegals in Texas aren't ALREADY putting a burden on police. Asking someone for identification is a burden? Puh-lease
How much of a "burden" would be lifted if we got a large percentage of the 1.5 million illegals that are in Texas, out of Texas?
The Third Party is not the way to go. Much better to repurpose the GOP.
We have enough problems with two.
We will take back the GOP!
