Liked this post and have made posts about how many of our soldiers in this nation’s history have been 16. And how many parents hand their “children” a vehicle and cell phone and send them out on the road with us all. Somehow these “children” are responsible when they have not shown anyone they are, and this young girl DOES show she is and is slammed for it.
Very sad.
That said, there is no doubt that this young lady conducted herself admirably, and I am very glad she is alive. It is also natural to ask whether the trip was appropriate.
I think most comments are slamming the parents and not the girl. Meanwhile, driving a car two miles to the local mall is not even remotely close to sailing across the oceans.
Have you ever even sailed? Well, I have. I used to sail on Lake Erie, which is the most dangerous lake as it is shallow.
This girl might be responsible. Great. What’s the big darn rush. And as for soldiers in our history being 16, that didn’t make it right and a lot of those kids died, crying for their mommies.
I am pretty protective ...But I do allow Sassy on horses & I get heat for that. I hear she is just 10 & you let her on a huge horse that could throw her...Her trainer is right there & yes it could happen. But you have to live. I am not going to put her in a bubble. So far she is doing really well but there will be tosses & sore bottoms. But that is life.
I see teens driving that IMHO shouldn't be. IF their parents had a clue they would take the car away hopefully. But I see so many parents who really don't seem to care. I have teen drivers in my neighborhood who fly through here. We try & talk to the parents & they scream their little darlings do not drive like that. Finally some of us moms with young kids called the cops & they sat an undercover car here & caught them....
I prayed Abby would be safe. I don't think I could let my child do it but I don't know Abby or her parents. Some children are more mature then adults I know...
I’m with you 100%. Abey is awesome. To have gone as far as she did, and continuing even after her chance at a record shows what a grown up she is. She will never be deterred by anything in life. What an incredible experience! Her brother made it. Her parents raised two very mature and capable kids, most of us parents should hope to do as well.
I believe that the age given for Mary mother of Jesus was just 14. How about that torrid romance Romeo and Juliet. What was Juliet’s age? And so it goes.
Let us all harken to the wisdom of one who gladly accepted his government paycheck for being a census taker and then pens a tagline as if he on the front line of the resistance.
