"At some point a line has to be drawn," the source said....
Earlier on Wednesday, U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar told a Senate hearing he would ask BP to repay the salaries of any workers laid off because of the six-month moratorium on deepwater exploratory drilling imposed by the U.S. government after the spill....

Better idea:
Let the Congressmen who passed the $75 million liability cap in the first place pay.
There's a legal cap, maritime law, of the cost of the ship, just under $1 billion. Passed by Congress, signed by the President, all that silly stuff the founders thought up.
Fortunately they thought up a judicial system that can ignore the other good stuff.
Were I an BP shareholder or bondholder, I'm not, I'd be pretty pissed that management wasn't invoking the legal protections available to them to protect either the value of my ownership share, or as a debtholder to discharge their ability to discharge their legal obligations.
But they've done none of that.
Good grief Barry, that's you isn't it Starholder, lighten up. Let them plug the leak, you get your people moving cleaning up the mess as is your obligation under legislation dating to 94 (thank's Bubba), send BP the bill, and quit whining.
Well, when you actually read about that cap, you find it’s so full of holes that it’s a bigger gusher than the gusher at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico is ... LOL ...
That “cap” actually caps nothing it seems... so they’ll be able to nab BP for those costs ... :-)
It’s got loopholes so big you can drive “a gusher” through it ... :-)
BP hasn't.
Till they do it's rather foolish to attack them for something they haven't done.
Regardless of whether you or John Edwards or whoever can drive a gusher through it.
Since today, Thursday, June 10, there's nothing to drive through.
That could change, given the rabble rousing tendencies of the administration and their supporters.
Till they do it's rather foolish to attack them for something they haven't done.
Yes, "we will see..." which is always what we end up having to wait for. In the meantime, though, I've already read news reports where the CEO is not confirming, any longer, that the company is going to be responsible for all their damage, which gives me the clues that this is indeed what they are going to try to do (invoke whatever limits they can). But, I don't think they are going to be very successful doing it, although they can try ... :-)
Exactly.
Here in the USA we punish a transgression post transgression.
Since pre transgression only politicians and wizards know a transgression is to occur.
BTW, the limits that BP hasn't invoked, have been upheld by the Supremes within the last couple decades. Not this dollar amount, but it's settled law.
Doen't mean the government can't find a way around it, but as long at they're not being invoked, a sensible person wouldn't attack with factually false accusations.
My opinion only, the administration is far more skillful than I.
Isnt it AMAZING what happens, when you have a President whose brother lives in a hut in Africa? We might as well be led by Idi Amin!
But, the $75 million cap IS the law. Apparently American voters wanted it that way, to encourage offshore Gulf oil exploration, since it has been banned everywhere else.

After looking into it a bit further, I see that this law has enough "holes" in it to drive a "gusher" through ... LOL ...
It looks like BP won't be limited to $75 million after all ... which is good news for the US Taxpayer. BP will be paying a whole heck of a lot more for their damages.
Truthfully, BP should pay all the direct costs of the spill, assuming Transocean or Halliburton were not 100% negligent. However, they should NOT be hung with any costs related to Obummer’s arbitrary and capricious 6 month “moratorium”.
